Recent events like '09's R&R Hall of Fame induction, appearances on Idol & the Crossroads Fest, the Grammys and the buzz of an upcoming spring release seem to be culminating into a real mainstream tipping point for Jeff Beck.

Nothing like overnight success from a 43 year career span which just seems to be getting warmed up! When you read today's NY Times Jeff Beck story, you'll see where I'm coming from. Feels like we're just now meeting Jeff all over again-- I feel a Yogi Berra quote coming on...

It's a great article with interview, background bio, video and audio clips; everything necessary to bring all the regular folks out there up to speed on a living guitar legend.

Excerpt from NY Times piece:

"...But the most illuminating moment of the visit may have been supplied by Stephen Colbert in the monologue that opened the Grammy show. 'Honey, do you know who Jeff Beck is?' he asked his daughter, sitting in the audience. When she shook her head no and looked baffled, Mr. Colbert explained: 'Well, you know the game ‘Guitar Hero?’ He has the all-time high score — and he’s never played it.'..."

"To support the CD Mr. Beck will be touring with a new band. He has retained the keyboard player Jason Rebello from his last ensemble but has brought in a new rhythm section: the drummer Narada Michael Walden and the Canadian bassist Rhonda Smith, who spent nearly a decade recording and touring with Prince."

Walden was on the "Wired" album and with Rhonda on bass, one could imagine that the new release will be quite funky. 8)

Wonder what's happened to Tal? She was a breath of fresh air. A young, unassuming artist, very into her playing and extremely satisfying to watch perform. Where Beck is concerned, you don't see him as the person, on stage, rather, the artist. I felt the same where Tal was concerned. Rhonda Smith obviously possesses a different kind of charisma. I personally don't care for that kind of in your face physicality. I wait to see whether or not the package is a distractor from the performance.

From what I understand, Tal had made 'other' musical commitments and wouldn't be available in time to promote the new disc on this tour.

Mike another fantastic piece. When I do think of it Jeff at 65 is just about as big as he ever was and is co headlining in his biggest venues to date while most of his peers are not on the radar anymore. Also with Beck age does not play a part as he continues to be a breath of fresh air.

Doc I am somewhat shocked at the lineup change though I know she is set to go in the studio to record a new album after finishing up the Clapton dates. Whatever the case this is not the last you will here of her with Beck.

Picking up on you and Mike: "More power to her!"
