The lower end Epi's are junk. You need to get into the $500 or better range to get something nice. Their Masterbuilts are exceptional instruments. I've been eyeballing the new 1959 LP. Gibson Burstbucker pups Mallory caps Switchcraft jack and switch all for $900. I tried one out at the local Georges Music and it was really sweet. Played great fabulous setup and tone to the bone. Very cool.
this is fairly true...
I have an Epi Dot. the construction is excellent, playability is good, but the electronics are horrid.

i have been trying to decide which sonic direction to go to, don't really want to go the burstbucker route, like a friend suggested, not sure if they would compliment the hollowbody sound. i haven't played a dirt cheap epi for a long time, but the mid price seem on par with anything in their range, and as supro says their top end stuff is great.
