I just want to thank Miami Mike for putting up that video of Danny Gatton playing a Strat in which he removed the volume knob and pot. I went and had my Beck Strat wired like that and have to say the guitar is so much more comfortable to play. I cant believe I never thought of doing that in all these years.

I played a Tele for 13 years before buying my first Strat and though I got comfortable on them I never found them as comfortable as Teles because of the volume knob and middle pup which my pick always bounced off. I learned years ago that Blackmore and Yngwie had the same problem so they sunk them and that is what I do with all my Strats and that problem was solved.

Now after watching Danny playing a Strat which I never seen him with before and the volume gone I knew exactly why he did it. I knew I was going to give it a shot right after that clip. I went to hang out with my friend Mike at the shop yesterday and grabbed my Beck and 10 minutes later it turned into the greatest ax ever and he ordered me a new pick guard for two knobs. I would definitely recommend this mod for any ex Tele players or anyone that has the same issues and wants total comfort.

Gatton was a creative guy with lots of ideas. Such a shame about
how he ended it all.

Yeah, Mike. He removed his 'dingus boxes' 'cause critics said they were
resposible for his skill. Guess he was sensitive.

Roy Buchanan, same thing. If only some one had been there to talk them out of it.

I believe they were both from the D.C. area and were friends.

Painful to think about....

Danny&Roy were the original Telemasters it's unspeakably tragic their untimely deaths, such a sad waste.I had the pleasure of seeing Roy in concert in 77 he was simply superb. It's frightening when you think of all the great talents we lost way too prematurely.

Yes they were both from the DC area bu Buchanan was about 4 years old. Very weird how they had similar stories super human talent with tragic endings. Roy had a much darker side than Danny though. Danny would say if you love Roy you will hate me.lol

Perhaps the single greatest player to me as he could play masterfully in so many different styles that all made up his own, and was playing pro by his early teens. The record companies were clueless as how to promote him and he would end up in the country bin or categories when he was not a pure country player. I have never read a bad word written about him by anyone who ever knew him. About two months ago on the Gruhn site he was selling everyone of his guitars, though his two main Tele's were up but sold already. Then I thought I guess his wife needed the money as any life insurance would of been voided because he took his own life.
