I saw them live back in the early 70`s and they were great. I still like them and they had a unique sound. I think Duane was one of the better slide guitar players around. I remember the night he ran into the back of a peach truck with his bike, that was terrible news.

I love the Allmans! Duane was a helluva slide player! Loved em in near every line up they've taken the stage with.

On a side note: I hear rumors that Warren Hayes is gonna tour as the new front man for the Grateful Dead. Course thats just a rumor as far as I know.

For those of you that appreciate that southern fried Allman style rock, check out the "Drive by Truckers". The lead guitarist plays a strat!

There was no peach truck involved in the accident. it was a construction truck with a wrecking ball.

this myth is around because of the 'Eat a Peach Album' which was named because of one of his sayings. peach being used as slang for a certain female body part, and Georgia Peach being a nickname for southern belles from that area. he combined them. when an interviewer asked "How are you helping the revolution?" Allman had said, "There ain't no revolution, only evolution, but every time I'm in Georgia I 'eat a peach' for peace."

Interesting, the night of the accident they reported that he hit a peach truck.

I love the original ABB. By the way, it's the daughter- now son- of Sonny & Cher, NOT Greg & Cher that was in the news recently. Has anybody here ever listened to the ABB at Ludlow Garage. I swear Duane Allman sounds like a black blues player on the intro to "I'm Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town". I think I can tell if it's a white guitarist or a black player on just about any song I hear - this ONE song I would swear is a black guitarist. He plays so slinky, subtle and sly... just INCREDIBLE !!! Anybody ever hear this ... agree....disagree ???

The original band is just tight tight tight fantastic. I could listen to Elizabeth Reed a hundred times in a row (fortunately I also have the remaster of Eat a Peach which includes more Fillmore versions). But let's have some due for the rhythm section. They drove that band to the edge and pulled them back just at the right time.

That's what a rhythm section is supposed to do.

Chuck Leavell's piano playing is now very in demand. He was overshadowed by Greg's B-3 and the guitars, bass and percussion, but his playin' was real fine.

Ok didn't Chuck found "Sea Level" with another Allman Bros. alumni in the seventies? I had one of their albums which disappeared in the midst of roommates moving out a couple of decades ago...
