Then you have the Pro Senior mod with a 12" spkr that is actually lighter than a Pro Jr because it uses pine :

I have 2 15 watt amps.
1) Fender Super Champ XD...best amp I have ever owned. I love this amp and have left my big Marshall JCM 900 sitting in the closet.

2) Marshall MG15FX//great little solid state amp but no where near my Fender.

I've had an SCXD for close to a year now and I love it. Comments about it possibly being too loud at home are true if you want to push it much beyond a 2 - 3 volume setting with low gain. But for low volume clean playing with good tone, it holds up well.

I've also used it at a friend's house (insulated practice room) and it's credible at higher volumes as well. I held my own against his Twin Reverb (on lower settings of course) in a two person jam. In fact, it was louder or so it seemed than the 50W solid state bass amp I also brought.

My guess is that it would hold up in a combo if you're playing at top volumes and mostly tunes that need distortion. I don't know if it would work unmic'ed in a group playing clean tunes unless you have a very restrained drummer.

I use the vibrochamp xd for home. In that situation its ideal. I dont see how it could compete with a marshall for marshall tone, these modeling amps always seem to do a disservice to amps by any other manufacturer. The fender tones are great though, particularly the champ setting. Which seems louder than everything else on it, to my ear.

5 watts, quiet enough for 1am in the kitchen and loud enough to annoy the neighbours at teatime. It sounds stunning at teatime on the champ setting. Loads of great fender type crunch that you just dont get elsewhere.

i have 2 15 watt amps. a blues junior and a line6. i have to say the blues junior is the best 15 watt amp ever, for both the price and the quality.

here is a pic of it:

Some popular 15 watt tube comobs:
Vox AC15
Fender Blues Junior
Fender Pro Junior
Fender Tweed Deluxe (5E3) - actually not quite 15 watts, but close enough.

Some popular 15 watt tube heads:
Vox Night Train
Orange Tiny Terrror[/quote]

I would have to disagree with the Tweed Deluxe, 45 watts through a 12" will eat a 15watt for dinner. I have a trouble of "too much volume" on mine, something that I miss in a 15watt peavey classic 20 I owned years ago

+1 on the Blues Junior, it's got a great basic tone, but a bit lacking in low end for me. There are mods out there to open it up a bit.

15 Watts is an excellent size for an amp, plenty loud enough for a band and you can get it into a volume zone where the power tubes are starting to work harder. My two personal faves are

Vox AC15
Ampeg Jet

I had a Jet for years, the model with trem and a 12" speaker. They run two EL84s and have a similar tone to the Vox, but a little more creamy mids, little less bright, and the trem was superb. It was my favourite recording amp for a long time.

I have a Vox Pathfinder 15R and for a solid state amp it has a very warm tubelike tone moreso than any other solid states I've tried. It also has a great reverb circut and a tremolo that can even replicate the Johnny Marr sound on How Soon Is Now,it also has a boost feature that can give you a really good range of overdriven tone. There is also an optional footswitch for tremolo and boost. For around $130 it's a steal.

+1 sounds awesome with my strat. it does buzz/crackle with my epi les paul, (humbuckers) when the gain is above 9 o'clock, but it's faultless with my strat

Answer to the question depends on what brand. It also depends on tube vs solid state.

I personally like the SCDX, Blues Pro, and Blues JR. I hope to bring a Blues Jr home with me next month.

There is a small mom and pop Fender dealer in Yorkton, SK.

Freedom Sound
65 Argyle Street
Yorkton, SK S3N 0P7
phone 306 782 4529

I don't know if they still have it, I have not been there in quite some time. That store actually has some pretty nice stuff for such a small city. The owner seems to like ordering in unique stuff.
ooh I have a cousin just outside of that city (nice little city,) I should send her hubby to scout it out, he's a bassist.
