This is a bit cheeky of me, but...

Nikininja emailed me some pics of a Strat he was asked to do some work on. OK, when all's said and done it's just a Strat - but it was flippin' beautiful! Fabulous restrained bit of lightly flamed topwood and a lickable cherryburst finish. I keep going back and looking at those photos - and I'm in love!

So I wonder if Nick would care to post the pics here so's everyone can see, please...?

Cheers - C

If I really must ....

Just a basic setup job I got asked to do some days ago. A great guitar to setup and what a sound when all was put back to playable. I dont know what these pickups are, I assumed 57/62's based on their sound and the age of the guitar.

Here it is anyway. A customshop 1996 '54 Flamed Maple Top in cherryburst.

Its in amazing condition for a fourteen year old guitar. The upperfrets need a little attention. But generaly the fret height is good to fantastic. A slight bit of choking on the 17th fret + on the high E. A lot less than I'd expect from a played guitar of its age.

If anyone has any info on what pickups would have been used on a 54RI then, please give out the info. My guess is just that, a guess.

Ah, sorry to be a drag. But thank you! :D

To my completely personal taste that may be the most beautiful Strat I've seen for a long time. I just love that gentle flame, not silly over the top as so often on expensive guitars. And I like the distinct longitudinal grain lines too. Got a feeling many would down-grade it for that - I want to stroke it!

I'm not remotely in the position to pull the trigger on a Custom Shop Strat at present. So just clear up my anxiety and tell us how much is being asked for this guitar, please?

Then I can be sensible and get back to real life...

Cheers man - C

Ceri the guitar is the shop owners. It's not for sale. I simply said to him, let me set the thing up then you will have something to compare anyone elses work to. I estimate it given its age, A1 condition, attractiveness to be worth around £2300. Thats my best guess though and in no way a accurate estimation. There are a couple of builders names stamped on the guitar, one a neck specialist. So user Butterscotch informs me. So maybe I've estimated too low.
Anyway your the new king of droptops and caps, so I hear.

Jay it's a flamed maple top on judging from the neckpocket floor, a lovely piece of Ash. This things got a sound of its own. I've ordered some bareknuckle sultans pickups. They should be arriving soon and are going in my CS strat. If they get me half the pristine clean sound characteristics that this guitar has, they'll be worth every last penny.
