Who on here agrees with me that silverchair's first three albums were absoulute kick as# albums, but there newer ones are total sh1t.
I also reckon that for three 14 year olds they did pretty damn well with there first release, which is my favourite album by them.

Yeah I'll agree with you. Was never REALLY that into them (I mean I don't have any of their albums) but I have heard them all.

Their later releases just seem to be the same mainstream stuff as a hundred other bands out there whereas their earlier stuff, especially their 1st release, was just so fresh and raw at the time.

In this day and age I guess it IS a bit suprising to see a bunch of 14year olds make it so big so fast but back in the 60s and 70s, most of the big names started quite young. I'm pretty sure Angus Young was only 14 or 15 when ACDC were already filling pubs around the country. Obviously the liquor laws were a bit more relaxed back in those days! Just the other day I heard an interview on the radio with Normie Rowe (you probably better Google him as he's WELL before your time) and he was touring all over the country and was actually named "King of Pop" when he was only 14 or 15.

Cheers!

They were okay, but here in the states they just got too caught up in the post-grunge wave hype...

That first album ("Frogstomp", I believe) was amazing. I got one or two of their albums after that, and they were not up to par. I still listen to that first album, though ... I think they would have had more impact if they could have kept their material at that level.

no the school boy thing was just a gimmick.... angus was actually 21 at the first gig.... also, i see silverchair as EXTREME Kurt wannabes..... i dont care if the music is good, theres a fine line between being influenced and trying to copy

I like the first album, I dont think he was a Kurt wannabe at all- but the next albums to date have left more to be desired

I've always seen them as something the record company (which ever one it may be) found as fast as they could to fill the void (and take advantage of) after a certain tragic event.....

Dude, they won a competition hosted by SBS, the prize was some money and a recording contract.

Almost everyone was trying to sing like Cobain at that time, but I have to admit they were very impressive for a bunch of 14 yearold kids. I am almost positive the lead kid hurt himself and there was some doubt he would play again. To be honest I did not even know they were still playing. No 14 yearolds ever sounded like that.
