I use to feel like that with all of my guitars, but soon got over that...Still have a close sentimental feeling with 4 of the measly little 12 that I own. ( my friends think 12 is allot but after seeing some of these forum member collections...12 is only a drop in the bucket)

I use 3 springs on 1, 3 and 5. I have the bridge floating to Fender default spec as found in their strat setup guide.

Three on a solid steel block, straight, with claw screwed full in, giving high tension - so bridge down on the deck.

I have found that 3 springs (one angled - looking at the back of the guitar "II\") provides great feel.

I use three springs making a "v" shape pointing at the neck of the guitar, float the bridge, and use the trem all the time. My guitar hardly ever goes out of tune. I don't know if its the way I have it set up or if I'm just lucky :D .

Four seems to be a happy medium for me.
