I picked up my first electric bass in the 6th grade (can't remember if it was fall of '89 or spring of '90. Regardless, it was probably built in the 80's. I owned this bass for 3 years and yet it is in none of my old photographs. What I remember about it: Fender Squier, Jet black (both body and headstock) , P-bass pickup (for sure) and (possibly) a jazz pickup by the bridge. Also, the most unique thing about this Squier was that it had a non-traditional headstock. It was shaped more like something you'd see on a Jackson or Ibanez bass. I bought the bass along with a 12" 80 watt Fender Sidekick bass amp, although I don't think they were a packaged deal, I think the store sales guy just hooked me up with both for a good price. I can't find any photos on the web of any Squier Bass that matches my discription, so now I'm wondering if I'm trippin' out on the memory of the headstock. Someone, please help!

Was it a 5 string?
I seem to recall a Squire by Fender 5 string bass with a sort of Ibanez Sound-Gear kinda shape to the headstock with 3 machines on on side and 2 on the other. IIRC it was a PJ style with a fairly conventional body shape but I couldn't tell you a model name or a year.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I found a pic of the headstock I was talking about but I can't seem to find a pic of the body.

Click the link below.

My bass was a 4 string, but thanks for the link to 5 string photo. At least now I know I'm not crazy for thinking Fender made some Squier basses that didn't have traditional headstocks. Unfortunately, the headstock I remember doesn't look quite so much like that Ibanez Soundgear headstock in your photo. My quest continues!
