there have been so many great guitarrists that it is impossible to say who's really the best, but for me the greatest of all is definitely SLASH.
the way he improvises his solos and the way he plays them is just so awesome that it almost makes me fly loool

There's nothing new under the sun. Slash is definitely a good guitar player, possibly bordering on great, but I don't think I could consider him the "greatest". He'd sound alot better if he ditched the LP, and started worrying about tone. lol

No! don't ditch the lp! it really is a part of his... well everything. just like john frusciante wouldn't sound the same with anything but a fender same goes for gilmour, cobain, mayer, guy etc... certain guitars work for certain people.

as for his playing i would have to say there is no such thing as a good or great guitarist because it is all relative and subjective. songwriting and even technique cannot be judged.

you can have influences and personal favorites but you cannot say who is the "best" guitarist. i think all of these post should be "who is your favorite guitarist?" or "Who inspires/ influences you?" etc.

okay rant over. i'll be quiet now

He surprised us one night as he strolled into a small club the size of a living room. I had to stand up to let him get in front of me. There was no stage. We were lucky enough to hear him play the blues for what seemed like forever. At one point he lost his pick, I looked for it under my table but it was too dark. He put his cig. & drink on our table, I kept messing with him by touching his cig. pack made him  . Afterwards we talked for a bit & since the lights were on we handed him his pick we found. He said "You keep it". Here's the girl in me, lord have mercy he's fine.

It was right after he left GnR's. Location was Cicada's in West Hollywood, owner was Bernie Taupin. The backroom as we called it was just for music industry folks. We always got a seat thanks to Bernie's wife at the time.

Jeff Beck played before Slash, was quite an evening.

Slash doesn't just play rock. He has lived the rock lifestyle since he was in Jr High. I read his book...woah...he's lucky to be alive. He DID follow his dreams and made good though.

The thing with Slash is that he makes stories of his solo's...some very technical, some just a lot of note's with some freaky wah effects making it sound technical, but main thing is when Slash plays his guitar, he's got something to say...for instance, Coma, is a story, combining Axl's lyrics and singing and Slash's solo's to a novel which takes you everywhere!!

In my (humble) opinion, Slash has left his fingerprint on modern day guitar playing..The right tones in the right time (and order!!) :)

Way to go /

!!

P..!

I always liked slash in GNR, I was sad when they split up!
But I understand why he did it Axel is an $@!&#*%!!!!!
as far as the LP I say it suits him he just needs to find the right pedal/stack!
That's all
