did anybody else catch the end of "huckabee" on fox the other night?

at the end of the show, gov. mike huckabee (who plays bass) sits in with musical guests on the show. sunday night, the ventures were there. they played "hawaii 5-0", followed by "walk-don't run" it was fun to see.

they also have a new cd out. has anybody heard it yet? is it a greatest hits collection, or new material?

the ventures were my first guitar influence back in the 60's i wonder if they still tour.

ventures for superbowl next year!

the band that I was in through spring of '64 covered many Ventures songs', missed the Huckabee show but heard about it wiki'd for tour info:
the group remains revered in Japan, where they still tour regularly to this day.

I have almost all of their albums. I've seen them a few times with the original personnel and variations. I've have learned a lot from them over the years. One of the first songs I ever learned was "Diamond Head" from a 45 on the Dolton label.

It was only a few weeks ago one of the older guys here asked me to show him how to play "Apache", he was having trouble with the triple picking part. I had never really heard of the Ventures until then but he gave me a CD and I liked it alot. They must have been a standout in the 60's being a mostly instrumental band.

Back in the 60`s I was in a band and we use to play their songs...the people always requested them.

There's a tribute band called "The Ad-Ventures" that plays all over the world now too.

Ah yes all us old-timers who cut our teeth on the Venture's are coming forward. I'm with you guys. They were a strong influence when I started.

A little over a year ago there was a R&R HOF american Music Series here that honored Les Paul. They had Mr. Paul and the ventures do some speaking. I couldn't make it that day (which I now will regret forever). but I had one of my daughter's roomies go and get to Venture's to autograph one of the old albums I had. they couldn't understand how a 50+ year old could get so excited. Damn I should have gotten her to get Les Paul's sig.

Love watching thier you tube stuff. And as someone stated earlier they are guitar gods in Japan.

I was actually listening to "Walk Don't Run" on a CD a couple of years ago when I turned to my wife and said, "You know what? I think I want to learn to play guitar." 8)

When I was 15 which was 33 years ago I was walking with my girlfriend who is now my wife ( I know kind of scary lol) I found a bunch of albums someone put on top of the Garbage can that was made up of a lot of Ventures albums. I still love Diamond Head and Walk Dont Run. Yes they are still like Gods in Japan which makes sense as they played only instrumentals. Then again Japan is a great music country as everyone from the 80s all tour there and say how well they are treated. Also a big guitar country.
