A few years ago my father gave me his 1957 Tele, amp, case. He lost an arm and leg in farming accident and can no longer play. Now that I have the time I will try to pick up playing, only I think I will use something besides his '57 classic

Sorry about your dad.
Congrats on the tele, though.
Edit; my original post seemed immature, as I hadn't had my coffe yet. I am very sorry.

I am very sorry about your father’s accident. I hope he is OK, all things considered.

Congratulations on your almost priceless acquisition, though not the way anybody would want to acquire such a prized peace of Fender history.

:(

+1 to all that.

That guitar would probably pay off some people's mortgages !

Talked with my dad about this guitar. He said my mother bought it in Denver about August 1957 from some unknown music store new for $400.00. It was his b'day present that year. I remember he played that all night long!!!! Any ideas what it's worth today???? Also have the original 57 tweed case (still has the foil label on the outside), the tweed Princeton Amp and books. What a fine instrument.

DON'T EVER SELL IT!!!!!!!!
First of all let me say i'm sorry about your dad (it won't change things but sometimes it helps when people are there to support you:))

it all depends on what condition it is and if it's all original. to find out how much it's worth (i guess it's nice to know if you're getting it insured) i'd look up comprable guitars on ebay and see how much they're selling it for. i recommend taking it to an EXPERIENCED guitar tech or luthier (or something to that degree) and ask them how much they think it's worth (someone who can play well and has experience can tell you how well it plays). BUT GUARD IT CAREFULLY!!!!!!!

feel free to ask more questions if i forgot something!

You must be tired of hearing this  ...I'm sorry about your dad!
And in closing let me just say in Case of Fire...
Let that be one of the first things you go back for or take with you outside!!!!!!!!!
And another piece of advice get that thing insured-seriously!!!!! :D
In recent actioning history people payed 220.000 Euro's!!!!!!!! for an Lp 62/67?
So I couldn't imagine what people would pay for that over here! :)

Sorry 'bout your dad.

That's an amazing heirloom you've got there -- something that can transcend you and your pop's love for music and will continue to do so for generations to come.
