I attended the Denver Ukulele Fest on Saturday and Ukulele Ray was in attendance promoting the new Fender Ukuleles. Why weren't any Fender ukes at the festival?
Ukulele Ray projects a parody of an 80s rock star image. Come on guys, out of all the talented uke players out there, Ukulele Ray was the best you could do? He is an embarrassment in my opinion.
His backup band has a completely ridiculous name and most of the talent. All the instrument solos came from them.
I guess Fender knows what it's doing, it's been around long enough. I think you would have been better off to send your instruments as your ambassadors.
Sorry Ray, I guess I'm not in your demographic.

He's been top of the Amazon Ukuele charts for fouteen weeks, so presumably he's a decent selling artist in that genre.

Hey, I'm not arguing with his sales, just expressing an opinion. A talent for marketing and self promotion is always a useful tool.

What you tend to find is that when manufacturers want a demonstrater they pick the guy with the chops. He's going to make the thing sound its best. When they want to invade a market or get loads of exposure they target well known performers to show their gear off.

Sooner or later they'll draft in the Yngwie Malmsteen, Greg Koch and Eric Clapton of the Ukelele world to show the gear off.
