On top of everything else, they got 12 stinking minutes. How could you even begin to get into it?

I'd be pretty darn happy to be able to perform that well. They were fantastic! Their history and the memories of previous awsome performances DOES COUNT! That's probably why people like me are willing to cut them a little slack.

And it's not about hating groups like Lady Gaga, (whoever she is), it's just, there's nothing to like! You think someone is going to ask her to sing at the Superbowl when she is Pete's age? Not.

It was great. Hope they had fun.

I am not a fan boy, and if someone I like sucks, I let it be known. I am a huge Rolling Stones fan... when they did the halftime show. IT SUCKED.

I like many songs by The Who. IT SUCKED.

I can only imagine who they will dig up next year. Elvis?

And stop hating on Lady Gaga.

It did not suck.

Good as The Who was twenty or thirty years ago? No.

It was good for what it was. The two remaining members with a backing band playing condensed versions of some of their great songs, near the twilight of their career.

And by the way Lady Gaga does suck. The b.s. she does isn't even close to Rock and Roll.

Uh didn't Pete have a little problem with that "book" he was writing?

I was wondering when that would come up. Some people were pretty upset about that and tried to get them kicked off the halftime show.
I didn't know much about it but here's an article about it. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 019190.ece[/quot

Didn't mean to dredge up his past problems. Just responding to a previous post. I actually forgot about that until a previous poster cited the Tiger Woods/Sex clinic. We've all made mistakes.

Someone mentioned how good Springsteen still sounds at his age. Maybe all that hard partying has caught up to them. I would love to be half as good as Pete. Even at his age.

Im sorry but I'd ask anyone capable of thinking, who's ever met a victim of sexual abuse to consider the utter farce that is this statement made by Townsend. Taken from the above linked page.

Quote:
Townshend pleaded guilty to the 2003 charges, claiming he had been exploring his own childhood memories of sexual assault as research for his autobiography.

How many victims of the crime need reminding of what went on let alone have to pay to view it on some internet site. Most except a lucky few spend their lives trying to come to terms with whats happened to them or in some way forget it. That pretty much voices my opinion on Townsends so called mitigating circumstance.

Like the Who or dislike em, thats your choice and has little to do with Townsends actions.

I just thought Daltry and Townsend were horribly out of practice, I didn't know he was a Perv. Not trying to defend Townsend at all, he shouldn't be looking at little kid porn, but I wonder if the Police that Cautioned him have done anything to the Persons who took and posted the pictures he was looking at.

Back to the performance.

Miami Mike makes a good point about he sound man, however, the rest of the band was Right On and Hot as ever. Pino Paladino was his usual Buns Kickin' self, The Drummer and other Guitarists were raging, seems like they had no problem hearing themselves. The problem seemed to be Rodger and Pete, and I simply think they didn't take this gig seriously enough. A little preparation and they would have knocked it out of the park, like they did just a couple years ago with the same exact line up.

It's not because I don't like The Who that I point this out, it's because I like them and know what they're capable of. They should have practiced, that's my assessment.

Did you ever think that when they wrote the above line that maybe they were talking about a state of mind and not a biological age?

I do admit that some of the singing was a little sub par but hell it's the ****ING WHO MAN!! I particularily like the Who Are You part (and I was secretly hoping for that old bastard to say the infamous "Who the f**k are you?" during the chorus). And the stage was brilliant to say the least. Starkey did a real good job on drums and I was impressed towards the end of Won't Get Fooled Again... and then the AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!! Who could forget that? One problem I did have is how they show Pino only twice. The stereotypical rip on any bass player. And on that note, could you imagine if Entwistle was still alive thundering down the bottom end on his Status Buzzard? I would have died and went to heaven if I saw that.

I dont buy the "they are old" excuse. As I said when I started this thread, they sounded horrible. It does not matter if it was age, poor mixing, or they forgot to take thier arthritis medicine that day.

While I am on the subject, why dont they just call themselves Townsend/Daltry or Daltry/Townsend. They are not The Who anymore. They are just two guys with a backing band. With that said, those guys have not put out any orginal music 20 years or so. Oh, I forgot and so did everyone else, they put out some lame CD about two years ago. Please Who, go away.

I also agree. Regardless of age, they are professionals, they should have sounded better, but they didn't. It may not entirely be the bands fault, the shows producers and/or sound people may not have helped. However, Petes freaking blazer kept getting in his way while playing, and it seemed like most of his arm movements were to keep the blazer and sleeves out of the way instead of playing. His playing was all about the attitude of "WTF is up with this goofy *ss outfit I am wearing that keeps getting in the way of my playing?", or perhaps the "Its affecting my playing, but look at my groovy outfit kids." attitude. Roger Daltrey's vocal range is not what it used to be, because people's voices change as they get OLDer.

I know people say they'd much rather see a band than some pop star, but personally I hate seeing bands try to squeeze in a 20-30 year discography into 12 minutes. Pop music is more suited to the "lets combine, sing, and perform clips from several hit songs into one musical craptacular", and I'd much rather see some flavor of the month I don't care about make a fool of themselves to a worldwide audience, than bands and artists I like making themselves look bad...

I also agree they are not The Who anymore...Oh yeah, did you hear? The NFL announced The Beatles at the 2011 SuperBowl...even though there's only 2 members of that band currently living, just like The Who, they are calling them The Beatles....I am just kidding about The Beatles and the SuperBowl, but it won't shock me if it actually happens...
