I noticed all the amps were mic'd. What do you suppose was that extra little knob at the bottom of the bridge on Pete's Strat?

it's the volume control for the fishman piezo pickup he has, he usually uses it to play the acoustic parts on his strat, so he doesn't have to switch guitars.

Personally, I think they were pretty damn good.

I agree that they started out a bit shakily at the start, and Pete almost came in early at the beginning of "Won't Get Fooled Again" and fumbled a bit throughout the first bits of the song, but other than that, it was awesome. The singing could've been a tad better, but, hey--it's good for their ages. :P

And the lights and stage were just PHENOMENAL. I've never seen anything like it, and my dad was absolutely blown away by it all.

I think overall it was a fantastic performance. :D

Edit: AND I was pretty surprised and happy with all the Fender gear they had onstage.... 8)

A couple shaky transitions but that's to be expected when you have to cut your show down to 12 minutes and fit in the expected hits. Overall I loved it and thought it was the best halftime show in years.

I'll have to agree with everyone else that said even a shaky Who show is better than any Lady Black-Eyed Britany Spears Peas Gaga show.

To say Pete in the same breath as Lady(?) GaGa is an insult, however, the caliber of his performance at the Superbowl was also an insult.

I'm not usually a negative person, but I thought it was pretty awful.

I'm not saying they should hang it up, they were offered the gig and they have every right to play ... but it's obvious they don't have the pipes or the energy anymore. It was a flat performance. If younger versions of Pete and Roger could travel to this time, they would want to kick their own asses!

Other than Prince, most of the recent SuperBowl halftime shows have been old men because the NFL and the SuperBowl is afraid of b   bies after the Janet Jackson incident...

if they were still young: that was a horrible show
but they are nearing (or in?) their sixties, so it was right on par (actually, better!) :D

Guys, remember that these guys are approaching 70. Can any of you picture yourselves rocking like that at that age? I just hope to make it to that age.

Music either sounds good or it doesn't; no matter how old the musicians are. I've loved me some Who in the day, but that sounded just awful.

But if age must be a determining factor, I saw McCartney last August, and at 67 he was kicking it hard and nailing every note.

Wow some really harsh comments that I have to disagree with. The last time I heard Roger singing I thought he had nothing left but I really enjoyed it and in no way did I feel they embarrassed themselves. For me the Who ended when Moonie died as he was so much a part of there sound besides being one of the greatest rock drummers and most charismatic rock stars ever. Now with John gone you cant say that is the Who up there but Pete and Roger entertained me during halftime though I know some would of wished it was Little Wayne up there.

...agreed. Sir Paul is still sounding great, as does, Chuck Berry, B B King, Eric Clapton,
The Rolling Stones...all well into their 60's or more.
The age thing shouldn't be an excuse for a poor performance.
Plus, Paul has enough sense not to go around with Ringo and call themselves the Beatles.

Me? I'll keep on a rockin' until they pry my guitar from my cold, dead hands!

The one thing a lot of people are forgetting is the gig itself. Thirteen minutes start to stop! Thats a hard gig to play trust me, particularly for a audience captivating band. It takes around fifteen minutes just to get yourself and the audience warmed up. Very very few artists can hit a stage cold and floor the audience.

I enjoyed it and with all things considered, thought it was
a decent performance, not perfect, but it was what it was.

On the pre-game show, The Steve Winwood band really tore it up! 8)
