All right my friends,

I am thinking about purchasing a Blues Jr. I have played a few in the local guitar stores and I like the tone. Any thoughts and / or opinions on the manufacturers quality, inherent problems, etc. Also, I always worry about buying used but would like to hear any thoughts on buying new versus used. Finally, if you have a Blues Jr., what do you like about the tone and features?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Beaubs

Hey Beaubs, I bought mine new more than a year ago and it works fine with me. It is the stock tolex unmodified regular BJ and I love it. I added the remote "fat" foot switch later. I found upon further utilisation that you can dial pretty much any tone you want, with the Master, the Gain and the Reverb pots. Good luck with yours. :)

Hi Beaubs,
Looks like you a few "Thumbs Up" on this one. I think the sound of the amp is WOW!... and I think you will find it quite versatile. As far as quality, I think its pretty solid.
Im sure you will enjoy it!

Bill

I've had my Blues Junior about 5 months and really like it. No problems at all and the tone is something. Like Claude said you can dial in just about any tone you want using the pots.

I bought the BJ as a "pick it up and go" amp because I got tired of lugging around my AC30 or the 59 Bassman. As it turns out, those two amps are left in my studio and the BJ is pretty much my main amp right now. There are times when I don't even take my pedal board. Just plug straight in and go for it.

In answer to your initial inquiry, I don't think you can go wrong with the Blues Junior.

I do not have one yet but have played them in the store. I was going to buy a SCXD, but decided to play the Blues JR next to it. Although the Blues JR does not have multiple voicings, IMHO it has superior tone. I have heard that it does have some minor flaws, but for a Fender Tube amp and it's price range, I like it. I should be able to go get one for myself next month or when my Tax money comes in (which ever comes first). I am about $85 shy of being able to walk out of the store with one right now.

Personally I don't like the Blues Jr. I had a loan of my friends for a few days and it just sounded small even when cranked. I definitely prefer my HRDx over the Blues Jr... but remember, that's just my opinion, 99% of people love the amp and only have good things to say about them but at the same time I also have to think that because everyone wants to get them modded there may be something wrong with the stock version. Why buy an amp if you have to get it modded?

I got an NOS Blues Jnr Oct 08, it suited my needs perfectly. I got the Texas Red a few weeks ago, now have rigs in every room  I tried the Fender Deluxe at the weekend, I loved that too. I really should stay away from that store

I'm up-grading to a deluxe reverb, awesome tone!!! But for half the money, the blues jr. is an excellent choice. I've used mine at various blues jams, and have recieved many compliments, on its tone. I replaced the reverb tank once (warranty), after almost 4 years of constant use. The jr. sounds great, and is easy on the back. :)

Thanks to all for your input. I have most of the money (for the Blues Junior) socked away and I will be mulling your replies over for a bit before i make a decision. I will let you all know what I decide.

Thanks again!

I really like my Blues Jr. in my finished basement. Pretty small room and I sit pretty close to it. There it feels punchy and you can "feel" it. I also use a few pedals in front of it. Not a huge fan of the onboard gain control.

When I take it out to a large "barn" where I jam with my friends it does kind of get lost. There I can get pretty far from it and it loses a lot of bass.

But at home it is the amp I use the most and I have a few.

I agree with zx101 as I have the same situaion. It is a good amp for small areas but that is what you have to keep in mind,it is a small amp which has a pretty high price tag. I think you should get together a bit more cash and get something at least 50 watts.

Love mine. Plenty loud enough. I generally play it pretty clean. The onboard gain to me sounds more like a fuzz than natural overdrive (maybe I just don't crank it loud enough). I find if I want some nice chunky overdrive at reasonable volume, I just run through a pedal and she sounds GREAT!

Mines the basic black tolex version and I have no plans to "upgrade" or change anything as I love it the way it is.

I bought the little BJ because of it's size and weight but I always felt the amp was a little thin sounding. Did some of the BillM mods to add a little more beef but even though it's greatly improved I still find it to be unsatisfactory. I fully realize my dissatisfaction comes from my owning several other truly great amps and I am therefore unfairly comparing apples and oranges. Nevertheless I still want a great sounding amp in a smaller, lighter, low power version and the BJ just ain't it. I am now looking at upgrading to the Princeton Reverb and oddly enough even with the 10 inch speaker I find it to be "bigger" sounding. It's a more expensive amp but I don't really care about that too much as I find you usually get what you pay for with amps, more so than with guitars. I'm also looking at the Rivera Venus 3 but that's a really heavy touch on the wallet.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
