It was 46 yrs ago today that The Beatles landed at JFK Airport and brought Beatlemania to North America.Their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show caused a sensation in the music world that has never (and likely be never) been duplicated. It was the Beatles appearance on TV that night that inspired me to become a musician. I will always be indebted to them for setting me down a path that has affected my life in many positive ways.Am I the only one who had a musical epiphany that night?Somehow I think there may be more among our more senior Forumites.

I was a bit young at the time of the Beatles first arrival but in the late 60's I became very aware of the Beatles and their music.....along with Dylan, The Who, Jeff Beck, Clapton and others. They set me on a path of music that has taken me to where i am today.

In my opinion the Beatles set the standard for all rock and roll that followed. I define The Beatles as musical genius.

I was there and equally captivated. Had to have a Vox Berkley amp. Looking back, I'm sure the tone was sorely lacking................... Mike

i remember that first ed sullivan appearance. i wanted to be john so bad. my folks had just bought me a strat, and i tried to convince them to get me a rick too, along with the vox amp. didn't work out.

46 years later, and i'm still a strat guy

It was around 9 months shy of my birth, but I think most of us can think back to one musical "epiphany" in their lives that turned the tide for them. The epiphany may have been opening their minde to a whole new musical style they'd never appreciated, or made them pick up a guitar for the first time.

Good info though, I've watched the films and can only imagine being alive to experience the whole Beatlemania time.

I was still in the womb at the time--I wouldn't see the light of day until April 1964. My parents bought a copy of Meet The Beatles right around the time the Fabs came to the US. That album now hangs in a frame on the wall of my music room. 8)

I had a band at the time, looked forward to learning their songs.

One of the stories around that night has the NYC crime rate dropping to an all time low. EVERYONE was home watcing Ed Sullivan.
The day they landed at Idlewild (now JFK) airport I was on a school bus with an AM shirt pocket transistror radio plugged into my left ear listening to Murray The "K" and then Cousin' Brucie talking about the crazy fans and what was going on at the airport. Was it really 46 years ago?

It was quite an event for sure. I remember being a bit irritated because I couldn't hear the music that well with all of the screaming, hollering and crying/wailing going on from the audience.

I remember it well. I was 8 years old. Nothing was the same after that. I didn't start playing guitar until four years later, but I can tell you that the concept of a rock band and the idea that a bunch of neighborhood kids good get together and form a band all came from that moment in time. The Big Bang. The fact that we are all playing guitar today and that the guitar has become the world's greatest instrument can all be tied to that event. I wonder how many younger players realize that.
