Hello, Back in September I purchased a "Fender American Deluxe Series Telecaster QMT" from MF listed as the stupid deal of the day for $699.99. . Even though the information in the posting was 50% inaccurate I felt it was a good value for the money and purchased one. It was not the guitar all the other purchasers as well as myself thought they were getting and many complained and many were sent back. This is documented in 2 other nonFender owned Fender specific websites.

My first guitar arrives and it is ok; but appears to have tonality issues so I send it back.

Meanwhile MF begins morphing their original description of the guitar.

My second guitar arrives weeks later and I immediately can tell the box was previously opened and the guitar is used with body marks on the back.

That guitar is sent back and I politely request a new in the box guitar.

Again MF has morphed the description of the guitar bringing it in line with what it really is. Also marking it down to a permanent $699.99

My 3rd guitar arrives and it is another previously opened box and when I open the case there is one of the front pickups screw and springs rolling around in the case. This guitar goes back immediately and I request a full refund to my credit card.

So yesterday I get home from work and there is a bill/invoice in my mailbox telling me I owe them another $699.99. Needless to say I made 2 calls to MF and calmly as I could requested an explanation and correction in this billing error. The first guy hangs up on me and the second person claims they've made the appropriate notes so this will be taken care of correctly.

This is a true story, meant for informational purposes.

TD

Don't you just love those customer service nightmares? I once got a LP Junior from MF and when I opened the box the headstock was hanging limp by the strings. I called, they credited my money back. No biggie.

When I run into situations like yours, I find out who the VP of Sales is. Sales usually runs the service dept. Sending a calm, detailed description of your nightmare (with contact dates and names if possible) to the V.P. of Sales usually gets the situation resolved. I gave up trying to deal with service when service is the problem. Go to the top.

Thats what happens when you buy from the WalMart of music instruments. Don't get me wrong, they have a great selection and if you don't have a good local music store there isn't much else you can do, but the customer service and care just isn't there. I have called them to ask questions on products to compare them and the most I get back is the support person reading back the description to me and telling me to contact the manufacturer for more info.

Buy from sweetwater. They can give better deals and actually know what they are talking about. I called to find out more on the amp i should get and I talked to the service for about a half hour about amps and helped me figure out the best amp for me. Plus with guitars they go through a 55 point inspection before sending them out so you get them completely mint.

I'll have to say that MF has been nothing but good in all of my dealings with them. They even let me return and they replaced a gig bag that ripped. I tend to use them for bigger items to save taxes. No shipping costs and no tax, not bad. Never bought a guitar, so no experience there.

Other than a few pictures, it's always the same stuff and I go through every page and seem to find something I might need. If not, than it gets filed in the circular recycle bin.

I get the MF and Sweetwater catalogs regulary. It's my version of porn. All that mouthwatering gear just teasing me. They tell me "don't fight it, you know you want it". Those dirty magazines!

The only "problem" I ever had with Musician's Friend was back in '97 or '98. I had ordered a guitar that wound up being back ordered. They called me to let me know.
