Well as far as guitar goes im "decent", but at least im a lot more open-minded about playing than most of my shred-head mates.
On the other hand as a bass player im pretty revered among my peers, i've even been cited as the best in our school (There only are 5  ).

I'd have to agree with Tochai and say I'm "Decent". Not great, not horrible, just decent!

I'm somewhere in-between being a complete beginner and a guitar god...*

*Much closer to a beginner...objects in mirror may be closer than they appear...subject to change.

The difference between being conceited and frank is, making statements you can't back up vs. ones you can. Having said that, here's my frank evaluation of myself in professional settings with the more popular genres:

Rock, Blues, Soul, Pop, Funk, Folk, Big Band, Orchestral, etc: I can handle it all with ease and confidence.

Country: I can surely hold my own but for the most part, I am very uncomfortable and not very creative with it.

Classical: Give me a week or so if I don't know the piece and then I'll have it down quite nicely.

Jazz: Utterly useless with this type of phrasing in spite of the fact that I do know an extensive amount of theory.

I make no excuses for my deficiencies after 40+ years of playing, 20 or so of which, being formally trained. This is simply how I wound up after all this time, for better or for worse as musically, we are all 'wired' differently. As Popeye says, "I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam!"

I think I can still sound decent though.

I would rate myself a beginner/intermediate at best. I've been doing the 6 string thing for about 5 years, started with an acoustic and can fingerpick to John Prine stuff around the campfire, but on my electric my soloing ability is very weak.

But part of the fun is learning so it's all good.

A lot of guys I know are not nearly as good as they think. That's why I kind'a dislike "jam sessions". Seems like there's always some gunslinger there wanting to "cut heads". Some lead guitar players seem to be that way. Now don't get me wrong, there has to be a certain amount of agressivness, in order to play in front of people. What pisses me of is the guy who is obviously on a little higher level than others and flaunts it. Being a hot player don't mean he has to rub anyone's nose in it. I like the attitudes I've seen in this thread. A lot of you are "probably good enough to be snotty about it.........and don't." My old hat is off to you. Being your own worst critic is the proper path. And for some, remember "No matter how good you are, there's a sixteen year old around some corner that can burn you to the ground." :)

I know what you mean dude, my friend who also plays guitar likes the AC/DC, guns n roses stuff, and I'm cool with that. Its just that, when we were practicing for our peices in the school PAC, he said, "HEY EVERYONE, COME CHECK THIS OUT, AREN'T I THE BEST!?" And sh%t like that. Hes only been playing for a year, an I admit he has got a bita talent, but he just rubs it in and acts so full of himself

I would judge myself as needing more practice. A LOT more practice. If I had to rank myself, I'd say beginner, simply because every time I pick up the guitar I feel like I've just begun, haven't really accomplished anything musically that I wanted to >.>

I also hate it when you tell people that you are not that good, they still invite you to jam with them, and then cut you down for not knowing what for them is a simple song.
