Thanks Tanner! A long time ago I decided (after trying to recall various shows, in what bands, at what venues, etc.) that I'd better get a photographic record of what I was doing. I try to get at least a few snaps from each show nowadays. I figure in 10 or 12 years I could be a grandpa and without photos my grandkids will never believe ol' gramps was a rock and roller.

Unless, of course, I'm still doing it. I sure hope I will, but one never knows.

Just tossing my $.02 worth in here on an already long thread...

Personally, I'm not as good as some but better than others...and I think that's usually the case for most players (regardless of whether they're honest about it or not). As they used to say in the old West, no matter how fast you are, there's always gonna be someone faster (or more knowledgeable or more experienced, etc). I will say that I don't think that I'm nearly as good as I probably should be for a guy who's been playing for nearly 30 years...I probably should put more effort in to learning theory and such but I don't really have the patience for it and I've never really needed it for 90% of what I do anyways (which is mostly blues and classic rock).

Now I will say that I do seem to have improved a great deal over the past year or so. In the past year as I've been trying to put a new band together, I've been forced in to the position of being the only guitar player in the group and as such, I've really put a great deal of effort in to simply playing better. I've always typically thought of myself as primarily a rhythm guitar player...I've always been able to do some lead work and I do enjoy doing a little but I've never thought of myself as a lead player at all. What really made me aware of how much I've improved was really this past weekend...my wife and I were "working out" with a keyboard buddy of mine for an upcoming project (more details on that next week if it pans out. We ended up doing a few tunes that I haven't played (on guitar) in like 10 years. Now I remember how much I used to struggle with a couple of those tunes...at least as a lead player...and this past weekend, it really wasn't any sweat at all. I'm sure that part of that is probably also a confidence issue...I'm certainly more confident with my playing now than I was 10 years ago but part of that confidence simply comes from having improved.

I guess if I truly had to rate myself with any proper terminology, I guess I'd have to call myself "semi professional" at this point. I feel good about doing weekend bar gigs and such any more...no real issues there but I'm not really ready to start "touring", playing coliseum type gigs either. I feel good about my playing, I feel really great about my equipment and my sound...can't really complain about any of that stuff there at all at this point.

Now if I could just find the right people to work with....oye!

Peace,
Jim

I can strum a simple chord pattern and sing without any problem, but I haven't tried picking a more complex pattern though. I should try that tonight when I practice. :P

Singing while playings easy! I refuse to sing unless a guitars in front of me and I'm playing it.

Haha, I'm pretty much just the opposite. :P I mean, I'll sing while I play, but mostly I just like to sing along with songs while I'm blasting them out of my computer speakers....like I am now. :P
Ohyeah. 8)

"Come on baby! Dee-dah-day-day! Dee-dah-day-day! I don't have no time for no monkey business! Dee-dah-day-day! Dee-dah-day-day! I get so lonely, lonely, lonely, yeah! Got to be some good times aheaaaad!"....

I just played and sung along to rape me home demo.....Very emotional song

Haha, sweet. 8)
I'm singing along to "Heaven for Everyone" by Queen right now. I friggin' LOVE this song.... :D

How was that Red Bull, by the way?

Ha ha, when I got there a V energy drink can said, "riley, dont pick the red bull, you know you want me an I'm much less dearer." And the red bull said, "Dont listen to that freak, be a man and buy me, I may cost alot, but the taste of me is worth it." I ended up buying 2 V cans

 OHMYGOD!! That just made crack up SO hard!! :D

I really have to try an energy drink one of these days.... :P

I warn you. There very addictive when your my age, 13. How old are you?

I'm 14. :P SO, they probably won't be any less addictive....

I'm turning 14 in a few months. But, your age is just a number. They might get you broke, i'm serious i won $150 bucks in a compettition (this was when I was heavily into em) and I brought atleast two rockstars and 1 red bull a day. I got broke in about a week. Luckily I'm not as addicted anymore....

Cool! :D When's your birthday?

And I say the same thing! Age is just a number, yet so many things are judged upon it....

 Haha!! Wow, I would have probably blown it all on completing my library of Queen CDs, or buying some new gear. :P

20th june. But, however old or young you feel is what your age is.
I betacha you wouldv'e spent it all on energy drinks if you were heavily into em...

Sweet! Mine's October 26th. :P
Haha, I say that, too. And if that's true, then my age varies. I sometimes feel as old as dirt, then other times I feel like I'm five years old again.
....
Ah, good times....

Haha, you're probably right.

I think I hear Energy Drinks Anonymous calling.... :o

Edit: Typo

I feel like I'm 16. all my family treats me like I'm 3, like I gota present for christmas, and it was this little book that specificly said on the back, "for kids 3-5". I felt like saying, "GOD I'M NOT A KID ANYMORE, I DONT EVEN LIKE BOOKS!!!!"

Oi.
Are you an only child, or do you have older siblings? Because it would make sense for them to treat you like a kid if you had an older brother or something.

OK...From a parent prospective, we never want out kids to grow up. Right now I have a 17 y/o daughter and an 18 y/o son. Although I know they are young adults, part of me would like to still think of them as children. It is only because your parents love you. If it does bother you to still be treated like a child, sit down and talk to them. Let them know your likes and dislikes. Open communication is always the key to any good relationship. It will also show the other party that you are a mature person and not a child any more.

Just my 2 cents on the matter (and works between me and my teenagers).

Haha, yeah, I know. Mom was actually just saying to me today that she's been having flashbacks of me running around the house with my short, curly hair I had as a baby, and then she would flash forward to when my sister and I would be grown up and out of the house.

She said she's very sad whenever she has those moments. :(

And Dad and Mom always say to us that whenever we have something that's troubling us or even if we just want to talk about something with them, they're always there for us. We have a great relationship in that way with them.

They still give me kiddie menus at restaraunts because im short......

KEEP THE QUOTE GOING!!!!!!!

What kinda guitars do you have by the way?

i have a dean soltero classic, schecter A-10 warthog (i think thats the name), an ovation acoustic idk the model ill have to check but its a pre fender ovation and worth well over $1500, my old squire mini strat, a mainstreet sg signed by AC/DC, and my stang gets in in a week or so

btw, what strat is that in your pic?

Squier bullet strat :) I love it. I also have a epiphone SG and some ashton peice of crap that i dont use cause its acouatic, I prefer electric. Post photos of'em

i will when the mustang completes (well, continues actually) the family..... and i figure out how to lol.... btw, why dont you like acoustic? i prefer mine (had it for 2 years and already some very minor fret wear) and i cant write on my electrics.... EVERYTHING i learn or write starts on the ovation

Make a photobucket account, and upload em and post the link ana wala. Really? I find it hard to write songs when I'm playing my acoustic, can easily on electric. Of course, I write songs like 24/7 so

PS, nice pics brian :)

Of course, I write songs like 24/7 so

when i write i always think its good at first and it might finally be worth recording then something comes over me and i just think it sucks and dont ever want it to see the light of day..... tis quite odd really

Yer, like I'm writting a song thats inspired by aero zepplin by nirvana, when I'm writting it i think its my best piece yet, but then once i read the lyrics at a generation Y person point of view, i think, "woah, most of the miley cyrus worshippers would think this would be $@!&....".....You have to actaly study them to get them, its kinda hard to explain.

PS, nice pics brian :)

yeah and its so much the music as it is lyrics for me.... i start writing really inspired (quite often very angry) lyrics and about half way through i read and realize how cheesy it sounds :?

oh and for some ungodly reason i cant sing while playing...... working on that though

Oi.
