I would say that I'm decent. I need to work on my soloing, but I can whip out a few licks here and there. I also need to work on expanding my chord "vocabulary".

And since now Mom has prohibited me from taking any more lessons with my much-loved and pretty much all-knowing guitar teacher, I'm really stuck with where I'm at in theory. I can still learn a bit from my Music Theory 2 class in high school, but there's really no more than that besides self-teaching from websites and books.

I miss my class terribly. It was the highlight of my week. I miss my instructor, I miss my classmates, and I miss the seemingly never-ending flow of new information.
We all had such fun in there.... :(

Why aren't you allowed to get lessons anymore?

Well, my grades weren't so hot in Algebra. I got a D+ for the first marking period, and a D- in the second. Mom was really P.O.'ed about it, and she had a talk with Dad, and then they decided that I had to have any form of a B grade or higher to participate in any extra-curricular activities.

I'm doing great in math now, though, so hopefully it'll stay like this.

Yeah, but maybe I could just sidle up to Mom and ask her--not Dad. Dad's WAY more paranoid about those kinds of things than Mom. And she will probably make a deal with me about it; something like I can record myself playing if I just show the guitar on camera or whatever.

Please abide by your parents wishes. My eldest is just a few years younger than you and has no concept of how insidious the big wide world is.

Your folks may often be over protective. Just means they love you.

Not saying thats your situation, just bringing the point up. When it all came crashing down thats who I went off crying to, and a lot older than you at the time.

Nice axe and hat BTW.

Ahaha, believe you me!! I'm trying my absolute best to stay on their good sides--I want those lessons more than anything! :P

Yeah, they are sometimes a bit over-protective, but I've known for a long while now that it's only because they love me, like you said. :)

Haha, thank you! People always compliment the hat, wherever I go....

Every day I get better and better. Right now I say I'm a mediocre player. Not the best, but not the worst either.

that is such a hard question. Cause there are so many different measures of talent when it comes to playing guitar and so many different styles. And alot of times I can play stuff note for note. But that doesn't mean I can create something original. And music that I think takes talent a lot of other guitarist do not think the same way. Like to me old guitarist from the 50's 60's 70's are amazing (they played a lot of finger style stuff and didn't use effects to cover mistakes) they just had a guitar and a clean amp. which to me takes a lot of skill. not taking anything away from the likes of Steve Vai, Satch or all the other effects drenched artist. try playing something clean and raw is alot harder than running through compressors sustainers and a but load of distortion to cover things up.. then there are artist who have a vast knowledge of the fret board they know 8 billion chords and scales and use them but does it make it any better than the guy who just works with a hand full of chords and a major or minor scale but plays with heart.. troubling questions who knows LOL

Welcome to the forum, Kersen! :D

I completely agree with you there, and I'm sure most of the people on here would, too. It takes a hell of a lot more skill to play with just your axe and your amp and make it sound good rather than playing through a heavily distorted amp with your sound laden with effects.

And, like, you, I'm not trying to put down guitarists like The Edge or Vai--it's just logic.

I guess the best answer for me would be that I feel for my length of time playing I'm slightly above average. I like to have a good handle on where I feel like I should be instead of always thinking that I'm not good. It's all relative. I know that some guys who've been playing nearly 2 years like myself would destroy me and I also know that there's some guys out there who probably really struggle. The best thing about the guitar is that you're always learning and improving. Enjoy the small victories as an intermediate player.

That sucks. I failed year 7 algebra, hopefully I'll go a bit better in year 8.

Man, that sucks! Sending lots of mojo your way for a successful year 8! :P

I'm trying not to fail--I have summer swim team to think about that I don't want summer school to come in the way of.
