+1 on that. Like many of us I love a lot of music, I couldn't begin to rank it, definitely couldn't pick a number 1 song. It depends on what day, what mood, what I've been playing and listening to recently... probably on what I ate... how much sleep I got... but having said that, there's some fantastic songs listed in this thread!

Levelland by James Mc Murtry.Without a doubt.
I know probably none of you have ever heard it,or of him. This song paints such a vivid picture of life in this part of Texas.
The studio track is better than any live version that ive heard.IMHO
It's good stuff.

Hi Campbellgrafx,I think you'll eventually see that a vast number of the Forumites have very eclectic tastes in music.I have noticed that a lot of our members are well versed and interested in many genres of music.Speaking for myself(I'm a musical schitzophrenic)people are amazed and many just shake their heads when they check out my music library.Over the years I have amassed a collection that spans not only many genres but many ethnic origins especially East Indian.I also have music from the 13th&14th century onward again from different countries.I think that you will find that many may have musical libraries even more vast and varied than mine.Having said that I think that the more varied the musical well you draw from the better and more innovative musician you become.Ain't it great being eclectic?

Then your head must also explode trying to narrow it down to a "best" or "Top Ten" list. :P

Drive my car by the beatles.

I'm no Beatles fanboy btw. From all their albums I can compile only fifteen listenable songs. Drive my car has everything though. A good storyline, great classic Harrison understated melodic riffs coupled by the bass sometimes, brilliant rocking piano and humour at the end.

A real smiley track.
Drive my car

this is really one of those impossible questions, soo sooo subjective, my favorites constantly change. one day it's one song the next it's another.
my mood changes, so does my favorite song.

Funny for Queen, hoiw everyone goes for Bohemian Rhapsody, I much prefer :

this might be the song he put the most of himself into.

My two all time favorite songs are:

Hotel of California--Eagles...Great song progression and lyrics
Dust in the Wind--Kansas...great melody

It changes a lot, but 'Layla' is the one I stop and listen to no matter what I'm doing.

Some people don't like admitting to liking 'Stairway to Heaven', but I'm a fan - 'Over the Hills and Far Away' is another good Led Zep track. I remember the Musician's Pro Shop here in Brisbane used to have a sign up in the '80s (pre-dating Wayne's World) that said "You're welcome to play but no 'Stairway to Heaven' or 'Smoke on the Water'".

I saw variations of the No Stairway sign in three countries before Mike Myers brought it to the screen.
