:) as i've already said i used to play lead in a band then stopped playing just about all together for 9 years or so and only recently got back into the guitar to try and get feeling back into my left hand after slipping a disc in my neck .
i'm getting on well with strumming stuff and remembering more tunes as i go on and i've even got my fingers moving at a decent speed doing scales , sliding scales ect but trying to play solo's of songs i used to be able to play in my sleep i eluding me just now eg , black magic woman , crossroads and most heandrix ones i used to play . so last night i run of a mini disc with 6 songs on it which are . zoot alures , zappa ,crossroads , black magic woman , francine , just got paid and white room . so going to spend the next few days trying to nail the bloody solos in these , anyone got any handy hints as i;m getting a wee bit frustrated  , cheers
Alan

Dude, just keep trying an youll get it, dont put to much pressure on you. Hey, if your having trouble playing right handed, why not switch to left? I'm left handed, but I play right handed cause i have mild dystonia in my right side, and theres not a hope in hell i could play even the tune to hot cross buns with my right hand on the fretboard. Make it easy.

g'day , i do plan to keep on ploughing through with this , i'm not one to lie down and roll over , i've got most of the feeling back in my hand :) which is nice :) now i know zoot allures is a complicated song and i've got most of that nailed  but the likes of crossroads there are some passages i can't even get close to anymore just some wee bit's in the solos , the same with black magic woman , as said b4 i could play these songs in my sleep years ago , the zz top tune francine i almost have , just the last bit of the solo to suss out . not blowing my own trumpet here but i used to be quite good :) perhaps it's just a lot more practice i'm needing , cheers

Awrite bawbag, lol. Hows it gawn mate? I dont know how you are set up at home for home recording but what I do is move the track to Cubase and then cut each solo into 4 bars and loop them one by one. Its handy cos it just constantly repeats and you just keep blastin it til ye get it.

If you're not set up like that then just do the same the old way, pause and rewind. 4 bar segments is the way to go mate!

lmfao. Pure dead brilliant!

I dont know if you play many videogames but you know the way Rockstar North who make the Grand Theft Auto games are Scottish? In GTA: IV they have a fake Times Square and the NASDAQ is called the BAWSAQ. Only Scots would get it! Genius!

I know how you feel as it has been two years since I played out due to an injury to my left hand and the thing that I have been thinking of is if all goes well with surgery remembering how to play everything again. Especially like instrumentals I used to play like Becks Cause weve Ended as Lovers or Europa.

First I would say to you to take on one solo at a time until you have all the phrases down. Then make up a regimen of taking all the licks that are giving you trouble and going over them repeatedly as this is what I used to do. I can have someone tell me they are having trouble with a solo and when they show me they play the whole thing up to the point they have trouble with, and would do it over and over again until I would tell them why do you keep playing the part you have no problem with, just focus on the trouble parts. Try it and let me know if it speeds things up for you.

Are you right handed? cause if you are it'll be much easier playing left handed, for now. Thats what I do anyway

Are either one one you speaking an internationally recognized language??? If so, could you provide close captioning or perhaps subtitles on the bottom of the screen in yellow letters (and make sure the soundtrack is not synced!)

It's Scottish mate. You've no chance of understanding it unless you've a litre and a half of tequila in you. After that the letters just dance into place.

Bawbag = quite repulsive person that looks like male genitalia

numtiebaws (or more locally Numtiebollocks) a person of previously stated repulsiveness without the ability to interact on a social level. Infact socially Numb. (hence numtiee). Or just a little idiot you'd rather ignore.

Alan. Just relax about it mate, it'll come flooding back without you noticing. Your just doing what I did and being far too self critical when you know no-one else hears half what you do about your playing. Best thing you can do is try and retain that high level of attentiveness to your hearing and implement it to a band situation.

Thanks for the translations Ninja lol. It's always more frustrating to have been good at something and have to regain it than it is to have never been good in the first place. I know this first hand. What got me back was the simple belief that if I could do something once I could do it again. I use that in my guitar playing now. If I nailed a part of a difficult song on a play through once then I know it's in me. You don't sound like someone who's about to give up and you know it's there so it will come. I'm sure of it.
