I am planning to learn to get into guitar and am planning to purchase a beginner one, but I am still undecided into what to get.

So far the choices seem to be the Starcaster, Squier series, and maybe the Epiphone Les pauls....

I am new to this so I don't know much, so give some constructive suggestions~ for this beginner here

and please don't suggest in getting Stratocasters or anything because my parents will most likely won't get me the expensive ones at the moment, and it seems not good for beginners

You'll run into two school's of thought.

Expensive is the way to go 'cause Cheap Stuff will turn you off to playing, or Get a cheap model and upgrade when you improve.

I happen to think it's best to learn of entry level stuff, as long as it's decent, and there's plenty of decent out there.

What do you like to hear? Your ear is a good place to start. Not saying you should emulate your favorite guitarist, but if you like Thumping Smooth overdrive, an epi Les Paul Special package might be for you. If you like the warmer, brighter sparkle of Fenders, you can't go wrong with a Squier Starter Pack.

I'd stay away from the Starcaster (STOREcaster, I call 'em. They're in the regular store, not the music store). The Squier pack comes with a better amp and the Starcaster guitar is more like the Sqier Bullet as opposed to the Squier Stratocaster.

Ibanez makes a really nice Starter Pack, too. And I like the ToneBlasters for entry level amps.

You might just want to get a decent acoustic until you know what electric you want.

Hey chenn! Welcome to the forum!

The best thing is to see what suits you best when getting a guitar but as a beginner thats probably out the window.

Personally I would get something from the Squire range. Many budget guitars can actually make it more difficult to learn because they are horrible to play whereas Fender's Squire range play absolutely wonderful and are great bang for the buck at the same time. There is a wonderful range on offer too. Starcasters I haven't tried and Epiphones are quite expensive for beginners much of the time and their lower end guitars don't seem to have the quality that Squire have today.

Just make sure you get it set up first. Also as you go on down the road in the wonderful world of guitar they are easily modifiable to bring them up to spec.

Squire the whole way and I hope you stick around here to let us help you on your journey!

All the luck in the world,

CC

Hi chenn, and welcome to the forums.
If you are really serious about playing, get the best guitar that your budget will allow. Look at the squire series (classic) or maybe spring for a second hand Strat or Tele. Go to the local shops and have a look around, ask tons of questions etc.

Good luck in your quest

Bill

Ahhh! so much replies so fast!!

I can't seem seem to answer much but I'll do the best I can...
My budget is 200$ because that would be as much my father will allow, by the way starter Epiphone les Pauls Package goes at 200$ so it's in my price range.

As for my ear, I listen mostly to Chinese bands, because I haven't been exposed much to overseas music

I just had that flame in my heart one day, that I felt I needed to play guitar...

If you have it in your heart then it is destiny calling. I'm not too impressed with Epiphones starter packs in terms of quality. I think Squire are made that bit better.

Chenn,

Welcome to the Forum. My recommendation is to play all the guitars within your price range. Get the one that feels and sounds the best. If you are still undecided at that point, get the Squier Starter Pack.

And they definitely have a better amp in the Squier Pack.

It is ultamately your decision. Play all the guitars in your price range, get the on that your gut instinct tells you to get. Is there any of your friends that play guitar? You both could go and they could help you pick one out.

Hi Chenn welcome to the forum, although I have a few Epiphones and love them they are not the cheaper starter models that's why I too suggest the Squire starter pack, better quality and playability,a great rig to start on.Good Luck.

maybe look for a good deal on some used gear on craigs list or something. It may not be as shiny as new but you will get more quality gear on your budget

Will you be trying to take formal lessons from a teacher/school?
Many of the guitar classes around here (Ontario, Canada) specify you need to either own or rent an acoustic to attend their classes.

If not then the previous advise is good, go to a shop(s) and try our many in your price range until you find one that feels and sounds the best to you

Squier Bullet Strat- @ $120 US
Squier Affinity Strat or Tele- @ $180 US

Fender Frontman 10G Amp - $60 US

If you are shopping in a store, you may be able to get them to come down on the price some. You can always buy the amp later. Don't get overwhelmed by all the choices. It will come to you. Just take your time. Good luck.
