Mingus, Jaco, Jamerson, LaFaro, Evans, The Bird, Coltrane, Miles, Roscoe Beck, Jeff Berlin, Scotty Anderson (country/swing player), Elvis Costello & the Attractions, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Freddie King, Howlin' Wolf, Lucinda Williams...

I know I listed more than one, I can't help it!

It depends what day it is. It really varies from genre to genre.

Sorry about the never ending list :!: :o

Shoot, man, tough question. Well...

SRV, Hendrix, John Mayer, my dad, Clapton, BB King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, George Harrison, and the list goes on and on.....

But mostly Stevie Ray. And, again, if you've read most of my posts, you would know that already...

well to start playing, it was slash and jimmy page.... i saw them playing that les paul and i though "wow, that has got to be me"... i then started getting into more hendrix, clapton, srv, and such which really gave me a base for where i wanted to reach in my playing..... as for just musicians in general, i love dave grohl of nirvana and the foo fighters, he puts so much power and emotion in his playing and lyrics, yet most are so simple.... also matt bellamy of muse is an amazing musician i look up to.... he plays guitar, classical piano, and he does vocals, all at a level many can't at even one of them

This is a hard one. I'd say the guitarists that inspired me have changed over time which for me dates back to the British Invasion. Since I've been experimenting in Jazz lately, I'd say it is Wes Montgomery.

SLASH!
definitely, Slash!

he's my favorite guitarrist by far, when I hear him play I just go insane with those solos and riffs... He's a really big inspiration for me, mainly in the solos of Sweet Child O'mine, November Rain and You Could be Mine.

My first inspirations to pick up a guitar were my Dad and my Grandpa. As I have gotten older and started to grow in the music I listen to. I am always inspired by John Mayer, who lead me to listen to Jimi Hendrix and SRV, I have also always loved listening to Santana, BB King and Buddy Guy.

John Lennon made me want to get a guitar and be a rock star. The prog rockers of the 70's...Steve Howe, David Gilmour, etc... made me want to be a musician.

A few, in the following order:
Jack White
Hendrix
George Harrison
Lennon

Not many new guitarists really but I try to keep my playing modern with some classic twists, which is why Jack White is my first choice. Too many great guitarists, genres and bands out there to really have a best guitarist, and its the same with who interests me most. Great thread!

When I first got into guitar, I was probably most inspired by Kirk Hammet - The heavy part towards the end of "Fade to Black" is what made me wanna play guitar in the first place

Later on I was really inspired by Richie Sambora and Tom Keifer, then become more into blues and once I found SRV, it was all over - I was only able to enjoy SRV's music a few years or so before his passing - I wish I had only heard him earlier, but I was young
