I just dont really care about anything anymore. Ever since school started an I got suspended, I just think, "whatever.....". I'm not saying that its a bad feeling, I reckon its good. Is this related to school? Cause I always have just sat there and not done any work, i didnt and dont realy care about school, but now its the fact that i dont care about anything.

Everyone goes through a time when they just can't care about school. Think about it, we aren't given a choice to go, you have to be there... of course you'll have times when you hate it. It would be strange if you didn't.
But to not care about anything - well that's a bit different, sounds like you're depressed, and that's more serious. Depression doesn't stick around forever, it does pass, but it's good to get a handle on why you don't feel that connected to the things you are supposed to care about.

I aint a counsellor, but I'd recommend you find a responsible adult who you trust, and who will listen and take you seriously, and talk to them about how you feel. Even the school counsellor isn't such a bad option - they are paid to listen, they're trained, they wont judge you and make you feel worse, and they're neutral... not gonna try and force you to pretend you give a rats when you don't. They also might cut you some slack with your teachers if you're getting suspended this early in the year! That could help. Like I said, I'm totally not qualified to give advice but you're not the first guitarist to feel like this dude, and it doesn't last. 8)

Listen Bro I know how you feel. My parents split up when I was 12, My MoM died a year later and I lived with my Grandfather for about a year or so tell he passed. After that I was on my own, Did'nt care about S**t. But I was wrong. I missed out on an education, Got into trouble, and made a mess of my life. When I turned my life around it was almost too late. So take it from someone who cares, No matter how bad things are now they will get better. But it has to start with you. So hang in there my friend and never give up.

Man Riley, you need something to focus on. I don't believe you honestly don't care about anything. I think you need a direction to go in. Pick something constructive and spend some energy on it. The feeling of accomplishment is almost like a drug.

I also struggled in school and marveled at people who could do a lot of things and do them well. I found I have an attention disorder. I fought my whole life trying to prove I was as good as everyone else. I am smarter than many but can't seem to stay on task very well.

OK... these days I am quite different. But learning new complicated procedures at work was extremely difficult. I am glad to be retired.

Hang in there young friend. It's not as bad as you think. You are the maker of your destiny, nobody else. You need to make the choices that are right and good for you. The best of them will not be easy.

Peace.

You seem stoked on guitar lessons, focus on the guitar. If there are any schools that offer good music programs look into those in the future once you get some more time playing. From there, you can possibly get into performance, becoming a music teacher yourself, and/or find out out some other music industry related jobs. While everyone would like to be rich and famous, going to school is a good way to make sure that you can at least pay the bills doing something else until fame and fortune roll in...

Hi riley: I hated school and left the minute I was allowed. Still, I also applied myself a bit and did OK academically. Which set me up to get on with the next stage of education, which was much more fun.

If you throw away your school years you will spend the rest of your life trying to catch up. 20 years from now you'll be complaining that education let you down and you're stuck in some crappy job you hate.

You only get one real chance to avoid that. Wise up: take it.

Cheers - C

You are FAR from alone with your feelings. Literally MILLIONS have, are, and will be going through where your head is at right now. Positive help is out there which indeed, will help you get through and out of the funk you're in now and will get yourself back on a good, positive and focused track. It's true! You do NOT have to continue feeling like this nor do you HAVE to. Take the first step in getting yourself out of this rut: Help is absolutely out there, trust us. All you have to do is reach out and ask!

I hated school but loved learning, still do.

I'm over 50 and just started to learn music and play guitar. I would love to go to university and study music, maybe even college to study music recording/production.

University was great, besides the learning, there were lots of pretty girls (I lived in a co-ed dorm, even shared washrooms, I didn't mind a bit.), lots of parties, campus pubs, concerts, very interesting people, good times.

Got a good job after university and definitely moved up over time, was making over $200k for several years and over $700k one year. Hit a few rough patches, personally and career wise, but without a career would be on the rocks, rather than in a rough patch.

Learning will give you a sense of accomplishment and definitely make you feel good about yourself, this will last the rest of your life.
College / university can be the best time of your life, beats flipping burgers.
A career can pay off handsomely.

High school crap is hard to take but will be over before you know it.

Sounds like you could be clinically depressed. As mentioned earlier, please seek the guidance of a trusted professional, such as a counselor at school. If you really don't care about anything, that in itself needs to be seriously addressed by a caring, neutral party.

High school itself will not dictate your life or future career, although it is a right of passage. If you don't at least finish secondary school, it really limits your options. Even if you are not thinking about college now, if your looking for a job against an equally qualified applicant that finished school, then it really isn't equal anymore.

Speaking from experience, even if you plan on being a professional musician without a college degree (rock-stars aside, plenty of successful stories), you probably will need to supplement your income, so please stick it out and graduate.

Even initially if you don't go to college, you might want to later, again you will need the degree.

Regardless, if your down you will not get anything done. So again, please seek the guidance and help of a trusted and qualified professional such as a counselor at school.

Riley unless you are one of the blessed few that can make a good living playing music, you need to get your head together now and start caring about something.

Life gets harder as you get older and without an education or solid job skills in a Trade you will probably end up hurting big time down the road. I had several friends that didn't really care about anything and just wanted to play music, now they are homeless and eating out of dumpsters.

You should start a band and call it "Teenage Angst"
Look, two posts back you were sitting on top of the world.
You get out of school(as well as guitar and life) what YOU put into it.
What you are going through, is what a LOT of folks go through(and worse)
and have been through, and got past.
You can sit and dwell on this feeling or you can let it go.
Sorry to be so blunt, but if you are looking for someone to give you a kick in the butt to get you going.............youll be waiting a while.
So I recommend using your self motivation (not perscription drugs) to get your self out of this funk you are in....
Good luck to you in all you do

Hmmm ... maybe you need perspective. That perspective comes down to money. Money is something we all care about (most people who say they don't care about money are either lying or selling something). If you think you don't care about money, then you are likely living on someone else's dime. When it comes time to buy your food and pay for the lights, everyone is always looking for more of it. And this school you loathe is a ticket to some more of it. You should be thankful for the opportunity now to better yourself and advance to another school where you can better yourself even more. Because ... sorry to say ... life is coming. And if you are not moving forward, then you are only in the way of the rest of us.

It could be worse, you could have nothing.
You should focus on what you do have and improve upon that.
Good Luck with the whole school thing, I for one don't miss it.
It is tough while you are there and you'll miss it when you get out.
And to make you feel better....life only gets tougher.
