Tonight will mark the 51st anniversary of Buddy Holly's last concert. So, for Buddy, I want to say:

You became more than an inspiration to me, you became a role model and idol to me. I often pay tribute to you in the greatest way - by playing your music for folks who either remember you or are hearing you for the first time. Tonight I'll be playing with my band, playing all your songs.

Thank you for the music and inspiration.

After reading this thread earlier I picked up my trusty Strat(What else can you play Buddy on?)and rocked out Words of Love, lead break and all,the Beatles paid homage to Buddy not only by recording Words of Love but chose the name Beatles to honour The Crickets.

raveoned - I went to the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock several weeks ago. Hopefully you’ll get to see it someday. They have a whole bunch of memorabilia ranging from his Cub Scout uniform, report cards, drawings, all the way to the glasses he was wearing 51 years ago tonight and the Strat he was playing. Lots and lots of tour info stuff, contracts, etc. It was a very cool experience to be standing next to all of that.

There was one Bobby Vee song that I thought was fabulous and it had a tasty guitar riff in it,that's Come Back When You Grow UP Girl.I always loved that song, his best.

I just started getting into Buddy Holly a few weeks ago. Right now I'm reading a biography to try and sort out fact from fiction after seeing the movie. (Would it have killed them to go buy a guitar that actually remotely looked like Buddy's?) And after listening to his music, the Beatles almost sound like a Buddy Holly tribute band now. :D Which is cool, I really enjoy finding out where the music I listen to came from.

You said it. What a musician and song writer. He died way to young.

Buddy Holly has some really great songs but could you imagine what he would've done in the psycadelic era. The Beatles whole sound changed in the late 60's and 70's and i think his would have also.

One of the true Fathers of Rock and Roll and I would also believe the first rocker to play a Strat. His short life had a major influence on rock right up till today. He was one of the first rockers to write and sing his own material and his music had a big impact on the Beatles. In fact the Beatles were such huge fans they named themselves like the Crickets, and just put a clever spin on it by using an A instead of two Es and they also do a great cover of Words of Love. And just put on American Pie for the full impact.
