He is one of my favorites. I just have a hard time remembering his name.
Vince Gill can play really well and most people don't know it. There's alot of Bluegrass players that are really good also. Check out Mountain Heart or Ricky Scaggs, and Dan Taminski just to name a few.

True, a lot of folks forget Vince Gill is a hellava picker.

read through posts and I wasn't surprised no one mentioned Alan (Blind Owl) Wilson or Henry Vestine both are gone. when they were with us it was in a blues/boogie band, Canned Heat. there isn't much available of Henry's work, a pioneer of guitar sound at earsplitting volumes that many guitar players including Jimi Hendrix picked up on, a live album of that band 'living the blues' gives a taste of what their live shows were like. saw them 3 times in Chi-town ( the last of those standing next to Jimi himself) and 1 time in London although Harvey Mandel had replaced Henry by then. Alan penned Canned heats version of 'on the road again' and 'goin up the country' 2 records that charted for those Bros. There are many more unsung guitar hero's, cool thread, looking forward to seeing others mentioned.

Here's a couple:

Larry Carlton - aka Mr 335. Everytime I hear his solo on Steely Dan's "Kid Charlemagne" I get chills. Great studio musician and has some really great solo stuff.

John Fogerty - very underrated guitarist. If you have ever seen John or CCR live, you know what I mean.

I have mentioned my neighbor, Jack Pearson, several times on this forum. Great songwriter and guitarist, has done session work for everybody in the book and toured with the Allman Brother for 3 or 4 years.

Johnny Rivers. Yes, that Johnny Rivers "Secret Agent Man". He lives down in old lightnin Hopkins neck of the woods in Baton Rouge, and still plays around. An absolutely fabulous blues and R&B guitarist.

Pat Thrall. Pat Travers band, Hughes/Thrall, Asia, Meat Loaf, etc.

That's right TC. He used to play High School dances back in the day around Baton Rouge. We also had a club around here for years called Tabby's Blues Box that Tabby Thomas and a whole lot of old blues artist played. The place closed down after Tabby passed away. I also used to work with Buddy Guy's brother at LSU. He was a Chef at the Faculty Club!!

I think Steven Marriott of the Small Faces was a great guitarist, underrated by some but most of all himself. When he left the band he was wanting to recruit Peter Frampton (!) so that there'd be at least one "real" guitarist... the mind boggles. Fantastic singer, too, of course, and the interplay (musical and personal) between Marriott and bassist Ronnie Lane was wonderful to hear and see. I guess eventually there may be a Marriott Relic Tele or something...

Hey Mondo, I like the idea of a Marriott Tele!
