Tommy Tedesco

He was probably the most recorded guitarist in history.he was THE most sought out studio guitarist for 20 years, from the 60's through the 80's.

everyone has heard him on countless projects including but not limited to:
The Beach Boys, The Mamas & the Papas, the Everly Brothers, The Association, Barbra Streisand, Elvis Presley, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Zappa, Sam Cooke, Cher, and Nancy and Frank Sinatra.
Aside from endless studio work, he also did an absolute ton of movie and TV soundtrack work. he played the themes to Bonanza, The Twilight Zone, Green Acres, M*A*S*H, Batman, and Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special, film soundtracks such as The French Connection, The Godfather, Jaws, The Deer Hunter, Field of Dreams, plus several Elvis Presley films.

he also appeared in several films and TV shows.

he played like 30 different stringed instruments. (Almost always in standard guitar tunings.)

I agree. Prince is often over looked as a guitarist. I've seen him rock the house before. I just dig him in general. Very talented guy. He's had that old Tele since the begining of his career, too.

Great call, by the way. Insane solo! He owned that, baby. Prince is one cool mother fu...I'm just talkin' 'bout Prince!

Another great call. Brings it back to the man which led me to launch this thread in the first place, Glen Campbell. Both were members of the Wrecking Crew.

Great stuff, guys. Keep 'em coming.

After watching a few Glen Campbell videos on YouTube and then reading so many ignorant comments/remarks about Mr. Campbell,
it got me to thinking about other great guitarist that just don’t get their due respect by the unwashed masses.

Obviously I will be including Glen Campbell, an accomplished guitarist who’s (often unaccredited) studio work as a session player alone is rather impressive.
He was the session guitarist with The Champs on their classic recording "Tequila", along with The Wrecking Crew, was a regular studio player on many Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” sessions, was on “You Lost That Loving Feeling” for the Righteous Bros., played on “Strangers In The Night” for Sinatra, worked on much of the Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” album,
worked with Bobby Darin, Ricky Nelson, The Kingston Trio, Merle Haggard, The Monkees,
Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, The Troggs, Frankie Laine, The Association, Jan & Dean, and The Mamas & the Papas,
…phew! The list goes on.

So here’s my tip of the hat to Mr. Glen Campbell (no relation, by the way). Quite a picker.

Anyone else know a few unsung guitar (or bass) heroes?
+1 and here's one of my unsung heros Garry Moore.

Tommy Tedesco was certainly a prolific player, truly a Renaissance man when it came to anything with strings.Question:Was it Tommy or one of The Wrecking Crew that did the intro and guitar parts to The Monkees Last Train to Clarksville?Although the Monkees will always be looked as poseurs that intro is one of the most recognizable in rock. The song was written by Bobby Boyce and Tommy Hart who scored their own hit with "I Wonder What She's Doin' Tonight"and wrote the theme for the soap opera Days of Our Lives as well as countless other hits and jingles.Just a bit of added info for fellow Trivia nuts.

Though not a big fan of White Lion, I think Vito Bratta is a PHENOMENAL guitar player. So clean, and melodic.

Also, absolutely LOVE Dave Murray from Iron Maiden... however I may be biased... they're one of my favorite bands ever.

Trey Anastasio from Phish

He is one of my favorites. I just have a hard time remembering his name.
Vince Gill can play really well and most people don't know it. There's alot of Bluegrass players that are really good also. Check out Mountain Heart or Ricky Scaggs, and Dan Taminski just to name a few.

Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I don't think he gets the credit he deserves.

people at work are probably tired of me always saying he is the most under rated guitarist in rock. his playing always fits the song, never overstated or self indulgent, and usually fairly inventive.

I think he's one of the best at coming up with hooks for songs.
