After watching a few Glen Campbell videos on YouTube and then reading so many ignorant comments/remarks about Mr. Campbell,
it got me to thinking about other great guitarist that just don’t get their due respect by the unwashed masses.

Obviously I will be including Glen Campbell, an accomplished guitarist who’s (often unaccredited) studio work as a session player alone is rather impressive.
He was the session guitarist with The Champs on their classic recording "Tequila", along with The Wrecking Crew, was a regular studio player on many Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” sessions, was on “You Lost That Loving Feeling” for the Righteous Bros., played on “Strangers In The Night” for Sinatra, worked on much of the Beach Boys “Pet Sounds” album,
worked with Bobby Darin, Ricky Nelson, The Kingston Trio, Merle Haggard, The Monkees,
Elvis Presley, Dean Martin, The Troggs, Frankie Laine, The Association, Jan & Dean, and The Mamas & the Papas,
…phew! The list goes on.

So here’s my tip of the hat to Mr. Glen Campbell (no relation, by the way). Quite a picker.

Anyone else know a few unsung guitar (or bass) heroes?

Phillip Sayce from Toronto ON,Canada is a wizard on the Strat combining the styles of Jimi,SRV,Buddy Guy and Jeff Healey. He's the guitarist for Melissa Ethridge (or Manchester) band.If you enter his name on Youtube you'll be dazzled.

Also Malcolm Young.... people often overlook him because of Angus's amazing work but in AC/DC's early work he gets in some solos and they ROCK. Also angus wouldnt be as good without him and vice versa

Funny that this topic popped up here. I got free tickets to see Motley Crue this week and I came away impressed with Mick Mars. Obviously I've heard their music since I was a kid but seeing him play was pretty cool. Their music doesn't lend itself to showing off great talent but without him that band would be nothing. The local paper nailed him when it described him as "the king of making the most sound with the least amount of movement". He was cool to watch in spite of his lack of action.

Another great I came across on several
YouTube videos was Roy Clark
(that's right, Hee Haw's Roy Clark).
That cat tears it up on Malagueña!

If you check out a few videos of him playing that number,
you'll see links to Jose Feliciano playing the same & others.
Another hot picker we often over look.

First let me say you will always find an idiot making a comment on youtube. I saw this guy from Brazil playing Vai's For the love of God and he was amazing. Then some idiot post at 2:38 you messed up on the bend and if I could I would of hit him in the head with my guitar.

Hi alanssaab,I guess you already know this bit of trivia but for those who don't Bert Jansch was a big influence to Donovan who emulated his finger picking style who himself went on to show it to Lennon,McCartney and Harrison.Donovan also wrote at least two songs as a tip of the hat to him, "The House of Jansch" and "Bert's Blues".So all the Beatles wonderful finger picking on songs like Blackbird,Julia etc. are directly traceable to the excellent Bert Jansch.

A man named Maury Muehleisen. Listen to many of the songs by Jim Croce and you'll hear this man's fantastic work as acoustic lead. Much of it I would rate simply phenomenal! 8)

Sadly, he died in the same plane crash that took Jim. :(

There were actually several guitarists in Green River, one being Steve Turner, who eventually went on (along with Green River singer Mark Arm) to form Mudhoney. Mark Arm actually played guitat for a bit during the bands start but then they got another guitarist so Mark could focus more on singing. This was Stone Gossard, who after Green River was in Mother Love Bone, then Pearl Jam...also on the Temple of the Dog album, though that was more of a tribute CD for Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone who had OD'd. But before all this, Steve Turner left, and Bruce Fairweather took his place, then when Green River disbanded, Fairweather and Gossard along with Green River bassist Jeff Ament, joined Andrew Wood and formed Mother Love Bone.

Has done tons of work with KISS studio and live albums. played in murder’s roe. Played with Meat Loaf live and studio albums..played with WASP, Motorhead, Crimson Idol, Michael Bolton, Eisley Bros, played Brodway. He has done music for WWE wrestling and theme songs for some if its stars. Music for cartoons like sponge bob. Tons of studio sessions for tribute records… done studio work for Ronnie James Dio, Alice Cooper, Tommy Shaw, Lemmy Kilmister, Dave Grohl, Vinny Appice, Chuck Berry and Billy F. Gibbons. Played with Tim ripper Owens…….the guy is everywhere but you only ever hear his brothers (Bruce) name because Bruce kept KISS fresh and alive for 20 years past their prime….Bruce would have never been in kiss if not for BOB Kulick….
