The Jazzmasters are short scales, too.

That's not accurate. The Jazzmaster has a 25.5" scale--the same as a Strat or Tele. The Jaguar and Squier Jagmaster have 24" short scales. 8)

I stand corrected, sir.

Randy Rhoades had hands the size of a ten year old and was about your size so dont let it hinder you. They dont make them no more but the Bonnie Raiit model was built with smaller hands in mind and dont take it as being a girls guitar as Bonnie is one of the guys and there is nothing girlie about her artist series Strat. You can probably find one on ebay if you keep an eye out.

I love the short scale on my Mustang(24")--I don't have small hands--but it's great for learning stuff on. then i can play it on longer scales more easily.

There are a few neat 3/4 scale guitars out there, the Squire Strat has already been mentioned and there is a Gibson SG as well.
On the acoustic side Taylor, Martin and Yamaha all make 3/4 scale instruments.
My 5'nothing(her words) wife loves her 7/8 scale Ibanez AC 30 acoustic, amazing sound for the size.

Happy shopping,
John.E

I'm 17, a girl and I've been playing since I was 13. (First guitar came at 11 though.) I was your height when I was 13 too. I'm still not much taller, and my hands don't really look like they were built for playing guitar.

I play a 2000 Squier Affinity Strat (nice narrow neck) and a 2004 Fender Standard Strat (nice thin C neck). I never even considered playing a guitar with a larger neck until a Gibson Les Paul came up for sale at a ridiculous price on another forum. I had always wanted a Les Paul, but this one had a chunky and wide '50s neck. I wasn't sure it was going to work out, but I went ahead and bought it anyway. As it turns out, I can handle the larger Les Paul neck just as well as any other guitar once I got used to it.

To this day I think I look funny with a full length guitar in comparison to the people who I'm used to seeing with one. But I'm never going to be as tall as Eric Clapton, and I'm always going to have to reach farther Kurt Cobain. It's also something that you'll get used to the longer you play. It always feels a little (sometimes a lot) awkward starting out. So play the guitar you want to play. I wanted a Strat, so I play a Strat. I wanted a Les Paul, so I play a Les Paul. If you want a short scale guitar then by all means play one, but don't psych yourself into thinking you can't play a bigger one because you can.
