I heard of this rumor (?) , as well. Though, if they want to get someone that looks more like Steven Tyler, I think Janice Dickenson needs a gig.

Why are they trying to kill/tarnish 2 different rock legacies with one tour/CD?

The only one who could come even legitimately close to pulling it off would be Gary Charone. Charone is one of the very few with the serious singing chops to handle it.
Paul Rodgers was smart to decline as his range is nowhere near Tyler's ... Bill Idol would be even worse with nowhere near the range to pull it off.

Billy as the front man for Aerosmith??????? NO…….don’t get me wrong; I like both but that is like substituting chocolate chucks in your ice cream with turkey sandwiches.. Fine on their own but a mess together………ahhhhhhhhhhh

I liked the old Aerosmith anyways, back when they were all on drugs.
Mind you, I'm not promoting drug use, kids, but we all know it's true.
Once they started making videos & movie soundtracks,
it was all downhill from there.

Not a fan of reviving “dead” bands, either.
I like and respect Paul Rogers but, no one can fill Freddie’s shoes.

Bowlfreshener is right on point. This would be totally ridicules in the fact Billy like Steven has a very well known voice and style and in noway needs this gig. The best way for Perry to go if he wants to do this is with a complete unkown. But to keep it real without Tyler you cannot call the band Aerosmith and maybe 15 people would show up.

I also can feel for Joe and the rest of the guys though as they want to play. I would say just find another singer and a name and go at it as a side project until Tyler returns.

It becomes funny to me when a notable band starts to sound like a cover version of themselves.

NEWSFLASH!:
It gets worse…I just read where they have also considered Lenny Kravits, as well.

NEWSFLASH!:
Now I’ve read where Mr. Tyler’s attorneys are suing his band if they proceed with any more auditions.

…I still say they should just replace him with Janice Dickenson.

Sammy Hagar, pay him the big bucks, it wouldn't be Aerosmith but it wouldn't suck.

camp love the Janet Dickerson reference.lol

I really feel for the guys if they want to play while Steven is banged up so why dont they just take Idol or Kravitz come out with a different name just say we did this as a side project and maybe we will get something new and fresh for a one off album. The bottom line is they just cant call it Aerosmith. It really is not such a difficult thing to do.

No offense to Tyler or Dickenson...I'm just sayin' is all.

Personally, being a bit of a cynic, I think it's probally just a publicity stunt to drum up ticket sales and attention for their tour/album. It's not enough to just be a musician these days. you got to go a little "Gaga" it seems to get folks to notice.
