I'd love to put a Gibson Les Paul in my family. I have an Epi LP that I've had for a year and a half and it was my main guitar until I bought my Strat in December. That guitar is still a great sounding guitar with all of its stock Epi parts. I took some time with it and turned it into a well playing guitar too after a few adjustments. That said I also doubt that I'd ever be able to pull the trigger on a guitar that's almost $3000 after taxes. The studio is nice but if I'm going to spend $1500 I might as well buy another AM Strat and have Fenders top gun instead of Gibson's entry level.

You dont have to apologize for loving a great ax. By the way welcome to the best forum there is and if you stick around you will find a bunch of very mature and knowledgeable guys who though Fender might be there main choice mostly all own other guitars. I believe every player should own an ax with single coils and one with Humbuckers to cover your tonal pallet.

Floyd, It's all cool. Dean is probably using really hot pups. No worries.

Gibby's are good guitars too. Besides my Strats and Tele I also own an SG.

I'll second that. I LOVE my SG.

I've played both and i own a Agile AL3100 LP copy that i compared to my wifes granddads MIM strat that I play alot. My Agile blew his Strat away. I was really surprised because i like the Strat alot. But there is alot of tonal differences that everone needs to be complete. That being said i still want my Tele Custom Deluxe to add with my others.

To compare my Agile to any stock Epi would be a joke. The Agile is so much better it's not even funny. The only LP style guitar as good for the same money($350) new would be a Gibson with a HUGE discount.

Lots of us here play guitars that are not Fenders. I have an SG I would never give up, becuase as you pointed out, they are awesome with the distortion kicked on. Give me a clean Fender and a distorted Gibson and Im happy.

I can't see why haven't you like the clean...

Last week I kept my quest for a thinline, and the guy from the shop said they didn't had one (they've vanished from lisbon somehow) and he said
''are you willing to spend a few extra and loose the twang?'' I actually was, since I was looking for something to abuse instead of my casino.
He took out a studio, brand new... and i swear it has that clean warm that makes me want to be living in wes montgomery's shoes... perfect, I belive this issue has some cavities and that way it comes closer to a hollowbody adding a hell lot more sustain.

But it's just the way things are... I like something someone hates, and the other way round.

For me the clean has a "bottled up" sound, like it is too much for my speakers. I have 4 different Fender amps ranging from the Super Champ XD to the Hot Rod Deluxe to the Vibro King Custom and for me I cant plug in a Gibson guitar to any of them and get a clean tone that I like. I also have a Marshall amp that has the same problem with cleans. If I use a distortion pedal with it on any of the amps it is fine. If I crank the bass all the way down on the amps it does improve, but still is not good to my ears. Funny thing is I do see people use Gibson guitars and clean amps and somehow they are able to get a good tone. I must be doing something wrong, but after many many years I still havent found the secret.

try using the tone and volume knobs on the guitar. Don't crank them, about middle for neck tone, 3/4 bridge and volume a little higher for neck. It's how I use them the most  it might not work for your hears though...
