From reading the threads on these forums I gather that a large number of players are into more modern forms of music and probably the majority of those3 play electric.I was wondering if any or many listen to the classical masters such as Andres Segovia,Pepe Romero,Eliot Fisk,Julian Bream,John Williams etc.I find the playing of these masters just incredible, the fingerwork is just amazing and at times you'd swear there were two or even three playing in some passages.Eliot Fisk released an album where he has transcribed all of Paganini's 24 Caprices it is one of the most stunning pieces of guitar work I ever heard.it would behoove guitarists of any genre to give it a listen his digital dexterity is almost beyond comprehension. The double CDs The Art of Segovia and The Art of Pepe Romero and Romero's Giuliani Complete Guitar Concertos are superb as is Bream/Williams Together Again. These are just a few but there are hundreds like Canada's own Leona Boyd who sadly has a crippling disease in her hands.Anyway any player could benefit by listening to classical guitar music as this was the first played on guitar and all guitar techniques(even pull-offs and hammer-ons)evolved from it.BTW that's where Randy Rhoads and Malmsteen got their starts.

I dont listen to any of those people but am waiting for Sequira and Lima to release something I can buy. I'm far too much of a trogladyte to know much about classical music, but when I likes what I hears I get at it. Seems I need some latin flair in my country life in ye olde Lincolnshire.

The percusion part at the end of this is jaw dropping. Have a look for their one guitar four hands video too.

Oh Yes ,I'm familiar with them they're outstanding, there's also a Latin American trio a guy and two beautiful and talented girls who switch around with one finger picking and two fretting,in all cases their coordination is incredible.

I love classical guitar. In fact I had some Christopher Parkening on earlier today.

Don't forget about flamenco either. listening to Strunz and Farah right now.

I enjoy listening to classical guitar, although it's something relatively new to me. Who could not like it? :)

Classical guitarist Edgar Cruz is a semi-local around these parts and while he plays "classical" classical, he's also known for taking modern songs and playing all the parts at once, including vocals. It just blows me away.

Also how about a little classical blues ...

I have one Fisk CD and Bream and Williams(Together and Together Again). Both are impressive. I listen to them from time to time but I have not really explored the genre too much. Ironically, classical guitar is originally what I wanted to pursue before I purchased my first guitar. I quickly realeased that a lack of a local teacher for classical and a SERIOUS lack of talent on my part would quickly dash those hopes!

The fingerwork in classical guitar music is amazing. At the moment I`m seeking out an instructor who teaches Country Blues and the fingering is similiar to Classical guitar. It looks confusing but like anything else practice will help get past that.

Hi guitslinger: you'd find there's plenty here into classical music, though of course it doesn't come up much on a Forum devoted to the electric guitar.

Far as fretted instruments are concerned I listen a goodly bit to the obvious stuff - Rodrigo, Takemitsu; that kinda thing.

Also, several years ago I found myself getting much into lute music, mostly pre-baroque. (Got a semi-block on baroque music for some reason - I always say; if it ain't baroque don't fix it...) Names such as Dowland, Cutting, Byrd, Palestrina et al.

At one point I contemplated trying to play some of that stuff, but there really exists no such thing as a beginner's lute: you have to have one built to order and that comes in around $2000-4000... So I didn't.

Hey, maybe I should build myself a lute? In seriousness, that is apparently how many players get going. Hmmm...

Cheers - C

I'm a big fan of Jaoquin Rodrigo's guitar concertos. His Concierto De Aranjuez is one of my all time favorite works and Pepe Romero's playing on it is phenomenal.

That dude Andres Segovia could play a bit, too.
