I went to my first band practice with my new '51 p bass and instantly something mentaly wasen't right. That care free aditude with my old squier jazz bass wasen't there. I sort of got paranoid It would get dented or warped from the temperature in the garage (I live in Canada :) ) an it really ruined my practice.

I ended up popping it in my case to the side of the room for safe keeping and helped with out my bass. The whole time I was affraid of breaking this expensive peice of equipment. What's a plan? Bring my old bass to these practices? What do y'all do to make sure your babies don't get harmed at practices?

P.S. I got it out for songs with band before I left and it sounds great!

Will pumpkin.

Best thing you can do to get over it is gig it.

In truth I get the same way about one of mine. Its horrible and restricts my playing the worry gets that bad. I just dont take it out anymore, and stick to old trusty. I got nothing to prove, and old trusty sounds great anyway.

Guitars are meant to be played. They get battle wounds along the way. The first time I took my 52 hot rod tele out of the case and went to set it on the stand, I banged it on the stand and put a dent in it. My CS Strat is full of dents, scratches, scuffs etc.

Don't make it a garage racer, or be a barstool biker  Play it and enjoy it. BTW congrats on your new guitar.

Congrats on the new axe Bro! on this subject similarly to subjects like it each person is different what works for you only you will figure out. in my experience the only time that I bought new expensive gear (bass guitar and amplifier) I hardly ever played that rig, choosing to protect I played my other guitars through other amps and didn't even break them in before I sold them sixteen years later. I showed them to other musicians like they were collectors items and I guess that is what I turned them into. in summation don't sweat the petty things but do pet the sweaty things.

Guitars are made to be played. My guitars are ALWAYS clean but they are covered in dents, hot rock and cigarette burns and wear marks. It's what makes that guitar YOUR guitar.

Made to be Played.

I was that way about my Fender Strat when I first had it since it was the first guitar I ever got new. It fell off a chair, and since then I haven't been afraid to play it. :D It's just that first scratch or dent that hurts.

I know how you feel,I'm fastidious about my guitars and go to great lengths to keep them blemish free and so far it's working quite well even though I play agressively and pound the strings at times a la Pete Townshend style. The main thing is to limit your guitar's exposure to extreme temperature and humidity changes, let your guitar become aclimatized in the case before using it and be very very fussy who you let use or handle it and with any luck you'll have a blemish free instrument for years.

In my opinion a guitar AND a musician only fullfill their destiny when its done right. Musicians are meant to play, guitars are meant to be played. If guitars were ornaments they would sell kits in Ikea. Play the #$@*&!% thing and stop bein so anal. Its like a rich guy who buys a Lamborghini and keeps it parked in the garage. Bull5h1t.

Are you a musician or are you a museum manager? Ask yourself that question and answer accordingly. Sorry to be blunt bro. The truth is the truth.

Hi C.C. you can be both,I play the 5hit out of my guitars and as I stated before I play them hard a lot often doing Pete Townshend type pounding on the strings,I'm not afraid to give a guitar a good hiding while playing it but I still go out of my way to keep them out of any potential harm.It has been mentioned to me many times when gigging how hard I smash down on the strings when cutting loose, you can do that and still keep your guitar in good nick.

Totally,I freak if my guitar is in the same ROOM as a radiator. I totally agree with you man. Keep a guitar at OPTIMUM playing level but dont be afraid to play the #$@*&!% thing. Thats just stupid.

It's completely understandable to be worried about them, and while you can try to keep it as safe as possible, PLAY THAT AXE.

Really, it's been said here already, the first mark is the one that hurts. And all of those battle scars over time can bring back great memories. The one noticeable dent on the neck of my Musicmaster Bass is on the back about the 3rd/4th fret, it's right in the middle and pretty worn over now. But every time I run across it and think about it I think about the awesome gig we were having the night it happened.

Use it without abusing it, that's what they're for. 8)

Thanks for the advice guys! Lol I think I understand now. My problem was I had the bass for one week and is got big gouge or like warped the neck in that ONE week I wouldd be pretty pissed off. Maybe that's just me but the scares should come from years of playing right? Not like 6 days of playing.
