That crossroads film has to be the best ever.

That poor kid becomes a karate champ, kicks a load of people in for some old Japanese bloke. Gets great at classical guitar and aces his school. Meets some old cantankerous bloke who tells him he cant play. Decides to rescue the old blokes soul by guitar duelling the devil. Then the devil wheels out steve vai. I mean, come on. Even Eddie Van Halen would be preferable, he'd likely take pity on you and let you win. Aslong as you were ok with him. Vai would just be plain merciless.

Lesson of the story. Stay away from pensioners, they'll lead you astray and get you into all kinds of trouble.

Apologies for waking the dead, but just watched Stars and Their Guitars and it's fantastic.
http://www.amazon.com/Stars-Their-Guita ... B001C0I5YU

It's not a performance flick but more of documentary / historical look at guitars and the stars who made them famous. Guys like Slash, Bo Diddly, BB King, Les Paul, Nancy Wilson, etc., talk about how they got started and fell in love with the guitar. There's also quite a bit of history about Gibson, Fender, Rickenbacker, and even vintage gear. Seriously, it's a must watch! I got it through NetFlix.

So I decided to splurge and buy four movies...

-"The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan , Live at the Newport Folk Festival...1963-65
-Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004
-Led Zeppelin 2-Disc DVD Set
-Pulse: Pink Floyd

How'd I do?

Keep the suggestions coming!

I watched Disc Two today...excellent! The encore alone would've satisfied the price of admission...and yet there is a treasure chest of music besides that on the discs! Thanks again pbassbob! 8)

Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii

Iron Maiden - Flight 666 *** Doc on 2008/2009 tour

***(even if you are not a fan, the fact that the Lead Singer is an Airline pilot and they converted a 757 into the touring Vessel is pretty darn cool)

The Trailer:

A mysterious guitar player offers to save a rural area from the swarm of locusts threatening to wreak havoc on the region's crops. When the mayor refuses to pay after the crops are saved, the "Guitarman" drives all the local children away until the town realizes the kids are really their most precious resource.

The guy in the movie looks like SRV, kills locusts with his Stratocaster and is just plain awesome.

Eddie and the Cruisers, and the sequel Eddie Lives? Could have used less drama and more music and is a little cheesy in places but worth renting.

"The Girl Can't Help It" starring Jayne Mansfield.
Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent...came out in 1957.

From Wikipedia:
The movie’s influence on rock music is significant. The film reached Liverpool, England in the early summer of 1957. The featured cameo performances of early rock ‘n’ roll stars such as Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, and Gene Vincent and His Bluecaps, fascinated a 16-year-old John Lennon by showing him, for the first time, his "worshipped" American rock ‘n’ roll stars as living humans and thus further inspiring him to pursue his own rock and roll dream.[2] On July 6, 1957, 15-year-old Paul McCartney’s successful audition to join John Lennon’s earliest rock group The Quarrymen opened with Paul picking up one of the groups’ guitars and performing Twenty Flight Rock in the same manner as he saw it played by Eddie Cochran in The Girl Can’t Help It.[3]
