I'm thinkin' of a piezo bridge for my Tele, I'm wondering how convincing the "straight acoustic" sound is. I'm not to interested in blending the stock pups with the piezo. Im thinking of just using it for a acoustic tone live.

Any opinions on the sound? Which bridge to get? etc.

Either for my 92 tele plus or Gretsch 6118... i dunno how i feel about modding the tele and i dont know if its possible to do it with the Gretsch.

Leme know what you think.

This question is for the Martian methinks. Mars is located in the Pickups and Accessories section. Best of luck!

Hi Vince: now that's an interesting question.

This is much more commonly done on Strats, because the cavities in the body make it much easier. Not saying they don't exist but I can't remember seeing traditional barrel style Tele saddles with piezos in them.

However, on Graph Tech's website we find this page:

http://www.graphtech.com/products.html?SubCategoryID=19

That has individual piezo saddles for Deluxe style Tele bridges - in other words, ones with six individual saddles. If you were happy to go with that type of bridge then you have a starting point.

Next, you are going to have to put the electronics somewhere. New stuff keeps arriving on that Graph Tech website. I don't recall seeing this outfit before:

http://www.graphtech.com/product-10-2/

The more common alternative is an onboard preamp, something along these lines:

http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics ... reamp.html

'Course, that has got to go into the body somewhere. Tricky on a Tele...

BTW: I'm very glad to have been on this little errand, because I notice on that first Graph Tech page I linked to that they are also now doing aftermarket piezo saddles for Wilkinson VS100 bridges. That's a bridge I like a lot, so that gives me some new ideas...

Also, those J-Bass piezo saddles set the mind a-racing. Howsabout a fretless Jazz Bass with a hollow body and piezo as well as magnetic pickups, strung with flat-wounds? Now that would be a jazzy Jazz Bass!

Good luck - C

Well, not so fast. Martian will be along shortly to tactfully point out everything I've got wrong in the previous post.

Still, that Graph Tech website is a starting point...

Cheers - C
