Telecaster.

I want to try out a Nashville or one with a humbucker in the neck, but that's a story for another time...

For the life of me, I can't pick just one favorite band. Top three are The Devil Wears Prada, Death Cab for Cutie, and John Mayer.

So different, I know, but that's what I like.

Anything should be good for grunge...just go with what sounds and feels best for you, because thats what the grunge bands did back in the day. They did not buy cheap pawn shop guitars cause they were grunge, it was just all they could afford. Grunge is broad anyways...TAD and Nirvana used Fender styled guitars. Screaming Trees and Gruntruck used Les Pauls. Pearl Jam uses Gibsons and Fenders. Soundgarden used Guild and Gibson guitars. So there is not one style of guitar for grunge music, since in reality grunge music was not one style of music, its more of an umbrella term used to describe several styles of music that just sort of came from the same region...

K thanks a lot bro i think ill be going with a stang then since 1.) i have small hands so small neck=good
2.) i love the competition blue and i need a good single coil pup guitar

p.s.: Nirvana and Green River are the best bands EVER!!!!!!

Edit: just checked and the stang pups are just labeled as such; mustang single coil pups

The Squier Jagmaster is actually one of the best guitars you can buy for grunge and its very affordable. If you are a fan of the nirvana sound you would be surprised to know that the jagmaster is the closest you can get to their sound when they went commercial.

if you want exact you would have to buy a jag and cut it up like kurt did, or just pay the 270 bucks for the jagmaster which is an incredibly good instrument for the price.

Kurt used a number of strats and he used a mosrite hi flyer for the bleach album and that guitar is now collectible for that very reason.

There are other grunge bands and as others have said you dont need a Fender to play that sort of music but imo Nirvana was the best of the lot with Soundgarden a close second.

Mostly 12 strings - right now the Strat XII, then the Ric 360/12. After that what ever I pick up from the pile - usually the Strat (2004 Am DLX) or the SG (61 RI) . Bands/Tunes - whatever pops in my head to play.
