Hey Alan what about the band no one ever dares to mention, The Exploited.

Wattie is still pissing people off? A drummer that lived near me in Cali went to play with them a while back. Name was Rick Heller. Dont know how long he lasted buy I heard he was their drummer for a bit at least.

I saw the Exploited when they caused a big riot in LA. I remember the skin heads went crazy when they played fxxx the USA. Good times.........

Man, I would have killed to have the internet back in 82 or so and talk to all you UK guys when I was a kid. We used to wait in lines to buy Dr. Martens and creepers even if they were the wrong size. Only one place for miles had them. Now of course they are everywhere.

Its all German army Paratrooper boots and ex army wear here on the hardcore scene now. Going to a gig is like watching the march on poland.

You remember English Dogs the third band to get onto Clay records? They all live within a 2 mile radius of me, except Wakey. No wonder the place is full of glue sniffers. They've reformed with a new drummer, who I've known a while.

Turrican download that album excerpt I linked. It wont be available forever ok. If you dont like it no biggie, but give it a listen.

The only song I ever sang in my band(s) was a Sex Pistol song, Anarchy in the UK.

But that doesn't make me an old punk rocker by any means.

I did like the Dead Boys.

Hey nikininja. I downloaded it but cant open it. I need some sort of software to open it? I cant wait to hear it.
I do remember the English Dogs. I used to love "the chase is on". Didnt like them as much when they went completely metal but I had them on my jacket lol. You seem to live right in the middle of it. Is that Stoke on Trent? Always heard of that because of Clay but didnt know where it was. What happened to Blitz? I still have "Voice of a Generation" on my ipod.

I grew up in Birmingham, metal country. I live out in Lincolnshire now. I met a lot of these people just through being out gigging. Over your side of the water these bands seem to act a bit like rockstars. It's not that way here, you bump into em in ASDA (like wallmart).

Alan your right about exploited being nasty to folks. Last time I heard any news out of em. They were set to play finland for something like £4000. The guitarist was demanding a PRS custom22 into a mesa lonestar or he wasnt going to play. Can you imagine how hard that is to get in Finland. You'd struggle at short notice here.

Agreed about the Captain. Remember when he was drunk on swapshop (Kids tv program) on saturday morning. Dancing on that table and fell off and knocked himself out.[/list]

Haha, yeah, I think I've heard the Vic Reeves thing once before. It's the glasses wot do it, of course.

He's virtually unknown here in the States, at least sfaik. I have a definite Anglophile streak and still don't know anything about him.

Brian please dont take any offense by that remark mate. It was a joke and thats it.

Vic Reeves founded his carreer by entertaining student/20 something audiences in the early nineties.

His regular cohort Bob Mortimer is a ex solicitor, and defended Jarvis Cocker after his stage invasion during whacko jackos Brit awards performance.
This is taken from Cockers wiki page.
Quote:
Cocker invaded the stage at the 1996 BRIT Awards in a spur of the moment protest against Michael Jackson's performance. Jackson performed surrounded by children and a rabbi, while making 'Christ-like' poses and performing his recent hit, "Earth Song". Cocker and his friend Peter Mansell (a former Pulp member) performed an impromptu stage invasion in protest.

Cocker was detained and interviewed by the police on suspicion of assault. He was accompanied by comedian Bob Mortimer, a former solicitor, who represented him in that capacity. He was subsequently released without charge. Opinions from the press on Cocker's actions were mixed. The 2 March 1996, edition of Melody Maker, for example, suggested Cocker should be knighted, and Noel Gallagher, of Oasis claimed "Jarvis Cocker is a star and he should be given an MBE". However, other journalists and the organisers of the BRIT Awards were outraged by Cocker's behaviour. In response to the ensuing media scrutiny of the action, Cocker responded, "My actions were a form of protest at the way Michael Jackson sees himself as some kind of Christ-like figure with the power of healing... I just ran on the stage... I didn't make any contact with anyone as far as I recall."[2]

The resulting press attention saw the band's record sales soar and a waxwork statue of Cocker, which cost £30,000, was placed in Rock Circus, London.[citation needed]

On 2nd July 2009 he appeared as a panellist on BBC TV's Question Time and responded to a question about Jackson's recent death by saying he thought the attention it drew had been hyped by the media. When asked what he objected to about Michael Jackson at the time of the Brit award incident he reiterated his earlier comments about Jackson and Christ (whilst admitting he himself wasn't religious). When asked 'Otherwise as a performer you thought he was a genius?' He replied, 'He invented the moonwalk

I heard ever being the comedian, he walked into court with Cocker, saw all Jacksons high priced lawyers. Said "I'm not scrapping with that lot!" and walked out again. As a joke. He went back in and got Jarvis off.

Oh, no offense taken. None at all.

Believe me, to have been a punk/indie/whatever person in a small southern town, even a college town like Gainesville (where I still live), in the early '80's, I've been called lots worse than having a resemblance to someone I do in fact have a resemblance to. ;)

Funny story about the stage rush and ensuing silliness. I love that expression "you/that lot." Never hear it in the States except from Brits and Anglophiles. My wife teaches English to people from all over the world, and she sometimes must remind them that if their existing English is British, some expressions won't be understood here. Not that specific expression, but lots of others.

Mixture of MIM strat with a dimarzio fs2 bridge humbucker and a korean jackson dinky with emg 81/89's. Not all the guitar is mine, Jools the other guitarist used a epiphone lespaul.

Cheers for the compliments guys.

I left the band some years back (2006/7 I think)
Their still going and their myspace page is here.

I loved the seminal days of punk with Iggy and the Stooges and(I don't know if they qualify completely)the MC5 and The Fugs with songs like Saran Wrap,Slum Godess From the Lower East Side and of course Coca Cola Douche. Then there's the Ramones,a bit later but on the leading edge.
