Guitar Center sells used instruments so I imagine they would ship them. If your asking if they ship used sold as new I would hope not. Thats what their clearance or outlet items are, such as returns. I would imagine one slips thru every once in awhile. Not all warehouse people are the sharpest knives in the drawer.

Yes they do ship used items. I ordered a NEW Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus a few months ago(paying full price) and they shipped me a definitely used guitar which I returned to Guitar Center. They apologized and said that it was just a mistake. When the replacement arrived, it was another beat up used guitar (with parts missing) which I returned. The third time was a charm and I received the new Les Paul I paid for.

For Christmas I ordered a NEW Fender MIM Stratocaster. The one that arrived showed signs of use (nothing bad though). I contacted Guitar Center and they dropped the price.

im sorry if i was unclear. i was not asking if they ship used items on accident but if they ship used items from there used item inventory list from the differents stores that are shown online.

for example: would they be able to ship me a used guitar currently in a new york guitar center if i live in florida?

sorry for the confusion.

Yes they do. I bought a Gretsch 6118 used off of their website and it was shipped to the local store. It could have been delivered to my house but i wanted it at the store because i was so concerned about it being beaten up and wanted to be able to return it instantly with no hastle if i didnt like it.

so yes they shiip used to your house or the store closest whichever you choose

It is up to the store that has the item and what it is.

I would have to agree with idahored to the fact they sell used gear and if you go on there site you can punch in something that has been discontinued and it will show what store has one in stock used. So I guess if you wanted it they would mail it. But as far as selling used as new I guess maybe a floor model could get sent but thats about it.

In fact Guitar Center does sell used returned guitars as new. I had it happen to me just yesterday. Here's my story:

I ordered a NEW MIM Standard Satin Tele from Guitar Center on 11/1/2013. It showed up on 11/07/2013 with the electronics broken and some other weird things like some of the neck screws being burred up. So that evening I took it to my local GC and had them order me another. Well, I got the new one yesterday (11/13/2013) and it is all beat up. It looks like someone played it for a month then returned it. The nut was not cut properly (obviously a factory defect), the saddles and neck pup cover (also missing the protective plastic) were pitted and tarnished, the strap buttons had the finish worn off in spots and there were deep scrapes in the finish on the back. The string hole grommets were also chewed up.

So, I contacted my guy at Fender and told him about the nut. He said he used to work at GC and asked me to go over the guitar with a fine-tooth comb while I was on the phone with him. That's when I discovered all of the other issues. He also had me check the Fender shipping box to see if it had been re-stapled. Guess what? It had! He said that it's common practice at Guitar Center for employees to open up new guitars they wanted to check out and play them and do whatever. He also said it was common practice to sell returned guitars as new guitars. So he ran the serial number for me, only to find out that the guitar was sold to Musician's Friend back in June. Not Guitar Center, who I bought the guitar from.

Now, I know GC and MF are both owned by Bain Capital so I didn't think it was that odd. What was odd was all of the damage and wear. Also, the protective plastic was missing from the neck plate and neck pickup.

Now Fender of course offered to fix it under warranty. But I wanted Guitar Center to answer for this, so I called their 800 number. I explained the whole situation about it being a replacement for a broken guitar I had previously ordered, so on and so forth. I was told all they could do for me was to give me 15% off my next purchase! I told them that there wasn't going to be a next purchase until they made this right. After being put on hold for another 20 minutes, the guy came back and said he could offer me $60 off the price of the guitar. Completely unacceptable.

So, I called my local GC (La Mesa, CA) and spoke with a manager (Sam) who agreed with me. He told me to bring the guitar in so he could have it looked at in person and if it was as I said, give me $100 off the price or give me a free Fender ABS HSC. That worked for me. So, I drove all the way out to the GC and he was not there. The sales manager Tony Hayse, who sold me my 2009 LP Traditional Plus (a $2000 guitar) assisted me. He denied there was anything wrong with the guitar and went on to say that any wear he saw was "normal wear" from the Fender factory.

Total horse crap. I told him that if he did not resolve this to my satisfaction that I would return the guitar, cancel my Guitar Center credit card and never purchase anything from GC again. Mind you, I spent 6 grand with Guitar Center last year alone. He told me that he could offer me a discount on a Fender ABS hard shell case, which would leave me paying $65 for the case. I told him he was crazy. That his solution to my issue was to give GC more of my money. I returned the guitar and will be cancelling my Guitar Center credit card once the funds are applied back to my card. Tony Hayse told me that it should take three days.

Insane story, let us know if GC refunds the purchase price and if they do something to make up for the hassle.

Well I'm really glad I now longer do business with GC, MF, or Music123. (same owners) and I will only do business with Sweetwater, Sure the price might be a little higher on some stuff. There Customer service is 2nd to none. You can select the exact guitar you are ordering from the #'s they have in stock using their Guitar Gallery. If it's a Demo they usually show the defects. And Guitars priced over $300 get a 55 point Inspection and setup. A free 2 yr Warranty on just about everything. They even pay return shipping on repair work.

It's sad to see companies that were once trustworthy have become scum bags.

IdahoRed, still brutal to think about a run around. Fender has you covered on future purchases with a more comprehensive product availability through their online store. From necks and bodies to finished instruments and all points in between.

I thought it was already established that GC was the Walmart of guitar stores. They did however shipped me a 1960s bandmaster cabinet and I had no complaints, the guy on the phone was helpful describing the cab (they dont have good pictures on the GC used site). Now although the cab arrived used :) it was a pleasant experience. I guess when you deal with people it's hit or miss.

Guitar Center considers a new guitar to be "new" even though it hangs on display and every kid in the metro-area beats on it all Saturday and Sunday long for a year or more (same with amps.) If you order a new one online there is no guarantee that the guitar they ship you was not one of those guitars as opposed to one that has not ever been unboxed.

I have also noticed that they are fungible with guitar cases/gig bags... the case they give you "from the back" may not actually be the one shipped with your guitar... it was just the easiest one to haul out of storage. This is especially important when you buy an artist series or special run instrument that is supposed to come with any kind of exclusive case candy like picks, straps or a book or something. You have to watch them on that!

Also, Guitar Center has a 30 day no hassle return policy and, for several reasons, will also allow returns even after 30 days. They will sell a returned guitar as new to the next buyer.

As others have said, best to arrange shipping of new or used instruments to your local GC instead of to your door. That way, you do not even have to take it home with you if it is not in acceptable condition.

You can buy parts but Fender does not sell Guitars direct thru their online store.
