so i'm at borders today, and see the current issue of guitar afianado. on the cover is john macenroe- you know, the tennis guy. he is holding a sweet 59 les paul lefty- a guitar that the magazine says is worth half a mill. whoa.

the article talks about his other guitars, and about his playing in a band with his wife patty smyth (fron scandal).

i was never a big fan of his, but i have respect for his taste in guitars.

Yeah the Mac's a great guitarist. Not just a non playing collector. I saw him playing years back. He was very aggressive and very articulate, just like his tennis.

This is all I can find on youtube. Quite unlike what I heard but very melodious.

Johnny Mac's the man.

Hope he doesn't toss them around like his rackets. Can you imagine the rant if you told him he was out of tune?

When I see people who are famous for other things rock out on the guitar sometimes it makes me feel like the guitar gods are mocking me :D I was watching the last Conan show the other night and be joins into Freebird and plays really well IMO. I've only been at it for a coupel of years and I'm sure that these guys are all life long fans and players but still some days it feels like everyone can play well except for me.

Yes I knew Mac was a guitar nut back in the 80s. I also picked up that issue and figured he had some great gear and boy he did. Also think about how hard it must of been to find all that vintage gear for a lefty. McCartney is the only other person I ever heard of to have a lefty 59 Les Paul.

Miami Mike I was totally blown away by the Peter Gammons photo. That one I never had a clue of and I have been watching him for ages. Who would of thunk.

I feel the same way sometimes, but I try to remember that maybe I'm good at other things they aren't ya know.

Before I picked up six string, I spent many years making some nice stained glass work on the side and Conan probably can't do that.

Very true bro. I spent the bulk of my life making a living with sports and athletics and I am proud of that. I just wish that I had picked up the damned guitar years ago. Oh well, better late than never!

No doubt a reference to King's love of the Ramones. Every book has Gabba hey, or hey ho lets go, or some other reference to em.

Gotta love Kings latest book, under the dome. Great book.
