I have my first jam coming up this weekend with a new band. I am kind of excited but also a little uneasy as I have only corresponded through email. Its kind of strange showing up with gear at someones house that you have never met. I answered an ad on Kijiji in Oct or Nov and I wasn't too sure so I didn't follow through. The guy emailed me this past weekend saying they were still looking for a guitar player and asked if I was still interested. I said I was because I really want to get into a band again, and I also bought a new amp I am dying to try out in a jam! I don't know too many of the tunes on their set list so I'll have to practice a few.
I hope everything goes well.

Good luck, it's awkward to be the new guy on the block but once you're in the vibe it all comes back to ya.

Good luck Yoda, I hope all goes well at your jam. Let us know how it goes, and how that new amp sounds cranked up 8)

Hey yodacaster wish you a good luck.

If you are in the Toronto area you can invite me as the moral support. You don't know me either but at least you can say this guy is from Fender forum and I'll wear the forum t-shirt too.

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys! I've got a bit more time to practice and I'll let you know how it went.

So the jam went ok. It seemed to be alot of talking about the old band and not alot of playing. It was a little loose but not bad. Kind of expected for people who have never played together before, but I am not sure if these are the right people for me. Some of the tunes I don't like, but we can't like EVERYTHING we play in a cover band. Not sure if I like the singer or bass player. I couldn't see myself on a social level with them so that may say it all right there. The singer kept talking up her DJ business, which I tried to look up in the phonebook and online and I can't find ANYTHNG! She was telling us how she could get us gigs in Vegas and Maui and all expenses paid plus getting paid for the gig. I'll believe it when I see it! The other guitar player was good and I liked the drummer. I have been offered a spot in the band but I have yet to decide.
The new amp sounded great! I can't wait to turn it up again!

Stick with it for awhile, it may work out well. If not, its still more experience jammin' and playing out, till other opportunities come your way. good luck :)

Agreed, stick with it for a short time, and tell them that you can't make up your mind til you have more time in. First impressions are always awkward.

IMO, even when you get to know other musicians, we're ALL pretty flaky in our own way so you have to see what the true person inside is all about. The DJ'er may have been boasting to sound important and cover her own insecurities in the group setting.

The first time that my drummer friend and I met we didn't hit it off well either. But now we've been playing together for 17+ years. Lots of good times and good memories we'd never have if we'd gone seperate ways after that first meeting.

I got another email from the bass player saying that the other guitar player wants another jam before he commits so maybe I'll give it another go.
Theres also a drummer here at work who says he wants to get something going and he's been talking to a bass player. Its an option but I always hear lots of talk but never anything else!
