Right now, I'm using a 1989 Les Paul as my main axe, and a 89 Strat for backup. A Marshall is my stage amp for now. Last night I pulled out a few old tapes of me playing in the same band 5 years ago when all I was using was a '01 Strat and a 2X12 Deville. Man that sounded really, really good !! It's the sound I was always after. I think the only reason I switched to a Paul was because of the hum I'd get from the Strat in some of those old bars and roadhouses full of neon lights and poker machines. Now I'm really gassin for that same setup-A Strat and the Deville. As I remember, I got the set for $1400 new back then. $799 for the Strat and $600 for the Deville. Now the same thing might cost around $1800 or so. Maybe I could find some used gear.

As Joni Mitchell said, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone?" 8)

Very true, my #1 "regret sell" now is the Black Pearl Export series drum set that I had. I'd been playing for about 10 years and beat the crap out of two crappy sets before I got this, than I added all Zildijan cymbals and had "the drums" and it was paid for.

I had it for about 4 years and than fell in love with a Simmons Elec kit, this was late 80's, loved the sound and loved the porability.

I traded in my Pearl set, financed the Simmons kit, which I eventrually later sold to get out of the payments, My biggest dumbass move.

I was very lucky in my tone journey. I started out on a Gibby 1978 LP Custom through an old Marshall. Then in 1983 I switched to a Fender Strat through a Peavey Bandit 65...then finally true Fender Bliss...through a Fender Bassman with a 4 x 12 cab. Now, I am a straight up Tele player through a Fender SCXD. Back up amp is a Tweed Blues Jr. I have found that Fender Guitars and Amps are the only things I play. My tone came right from them and I have been so happy since. Good luck finding your setup!

First I would just like to say there is nothing more enjoyable than pulling out old tapes from years gone by. I have boxes of them and some are 30 years old and boy I get a big kick out of that.

Hey just pick up a used one on ebay and now with the noiseless pups you will really have the Strat attack back.
