Just bought an old Jen but the plastic gear on the pot was busted as well as the plastic rack. The pot itself is still good but I decided to replace it. Luckily I had parts, put in an old Dunlop Hot Potz I (the one still made of metal) and a new rack and put the pedal back together. Works great but here's my question: the old pot and the new one are 100k pots, is there a difference in sound quality between them? I heard mixed answers.

Even two new ones of the same manufacturer can sound a tinny bit different. What matters is if YOU like the sound. If you do enjoy it.

Thing is I never really got to compare the pots, once I found out it busted I just replaced. But yes I am happy with it. I also noticed that the construction back then made the pedal much lighter, my wah from 90's seems twice the weight of my 70's.

Again, I like to tinker so I may open it and try a different range on the pot since it's 310 degrees but the sweep is lesser.

Do you guys find that wah pedals sound different on AC adapter rather than 9v battery?

I recenlly replaced the pot in my old Vox Clyde McCoy which is much the same as the old Jen with a Pro Pot from North Star Audio and although it's a 100k pot like the Dunlop the taper is way different and I believe that's where you'll find the difference in pots of the same value.I've tried Dunlop pots in my Clyde and old Jen Cry Baby from 70-71 and found that the Taper of the Pro Pot is closer to the original pot in the Italian made wahs.Although the Dunlop is an excellent pot for durability it doesn't capture the vibe of the old one.

Pots dont run too much money and are easy to replace, might be worth experimenting. I also heard about ICAR pots.
