rileytheguitarist, check out your 'run away from home' thread, finally got around to posting there. please don't go anywhere, we need a representative from crocodile country, maybe Ceri can show us how to make a guitar out of one of those big reptiles. :D

Riley,
Mate, I hate to see you go. If I can offer some advice which has served me well over the years. When I was a lad of your age my father sat me down one day and said there are 3 things that you should not discuss, Religion, Politics and Money. I never understood this until years later. I have seen friendships disolve because of money. I have seen careers ruined because of discussing politics. I have seen people die because of Religion. I understand that you were bored when you made the posts. On this forum, if you are bored then my advice would be to ask technical stuff like biasing an amp or wiring of a Tele or Strat. Stuff like that will definetly occupy your thoughts. Mate, this is not an admonishment by anymeans. It is just a note to let you know that we value you and hate to see you go.

The topics here do float way out there sometimes, and there are no issues with them.
Even topics that bash away at Fenders own products are left alone.

But there are a few nasty topics like politics , racial, and religion that are not permitted on many forums. Here they just get locked, on some (even some I pay association dues to gain membership) they will get you ejected.
The reason is these kinds of topics usually degenerate into horrible flame wars and make everyone mad at everyone else.

This is at its roots a music forum, keep topics around music making and there should be no problems.

I normally don't stick my nose into threads that seem to be nearing the point of getting locked, I feel this one may be bound in that direction... but... this is a forum, paid for and run by Fender for the purpose of sharing information, news, reviews, opinions, et al, about Fender products and music in general.

At no time when I signed up did I read anything stating that Fender promised to be fair and let me say whatever was on my mind regardless of the rights the U.S. Constitution may guarantee it's citizens. Forget "Freedom Of Speech"... it doesn't apply here.

The bottom line folks, Fender has the last say about what goes on here. I think that Brad does one heck of a great job in letting us joke around and banter about our views right up until the point somebody raises valid objections. "Valid" in this case, only has to be in the eyes of the beholder. Generally, the "perception is the reality" for most people. Keep that in mind when Brad has to act on a thread. It's NOT PERSONAL.

Back in the day... I used to be a GUIDE for AOL in the dreaded chat rooms. This stuff here is mild compared to what I had to police in that arena.

I'm done now and I'll jump off my soap box. I hope I didn't offend anyone.

Peace!

Riley, don't take it too much to heart about those topics, all that has blown over and there's no hard feelings or ill will over it.Over the past months you've poured your heart out to other forum members and we've all been very supportive of you and have genuine care for your well being,I think you should sit yourself down and reconsider dropping out after all we are all your close friends.Anyway whatever you decide Godspeed and keep well.

Wrong, you are on a privately run forum that has its rules and a TOS you agree to when signing up.
It is not a public forum where anything goes, and like the others above I am not from the US :)

Y'all did read the TOS, Forum Rules and guidelines found here
http://fender.com/community/forums/viewforum.php?f=1
before embarking on posting in these here forums didn't you?

Hey Riley mate don't go, please  (the forum doesn't have puppy eyes so that will have to do).

You have to understand that most people on earth are going through alot of BS especially these days (I could mention a couple of topics myself but then I would be stepping on a thin line that I've stepped on before, and Ceri managed to drag me out of it (thanks Ceri)) and this is one of the places that we can stop thinking about them for couple of moments.

But we all love you (in a platonic way of course  )

Good luck, kid. This is a guitar forum. The point of this place is for fun and relaxation, and shooting the S#&t about guitars. I have STRONG opinions on religion and politics and I keep 'em off this place.

As I have gotten older, my convictions remain strong, but my tolerance for others' points of view has also grown a great deal. Things seem to get less and less sure each year and I always seem to end up with more questions than answers. Man I remember how sure I was of everything when I was your age though.

Like Dylan Said

"Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now."

This lyric makes more and more sense every year.

No one here means any offense to anyone. Thats what makes it so special here at Fender. That and good people like Brad running it how it should be run.

Rules are rules, have respect for Brad, Fender and the guys here who just want to talk of their hobby/profession or simple things like their dogs or what they had for dinner tonight etc.

Airborne's advice never to talk of money, religion and politics is just simply how it should be done. We have no need to speak of these things. They cause problems.

If people want to take a hissy fit and leave then they can. They may say its not fair but thats life, it isnt.

I've said all I need to say on the matter and I for one hope it ends quickly and we get back to biasing, strings, pedals, bridge pick-ups and how 5h1t John Mayer is.

Peace. 8)
