I got the musicians friend master catalog yesterday and noticed the Marshall Class 5 is available. Has anybody demo'd one yet? Have any feedback?

I noticed a HAZE combo on the floor at GC last week but didnt try it. I'm extremely curious about the Class 5, but like yourself, have yet to find one on the floor anywhere yet.

The Class 5 is pretty nice and worth a try. The Haze is pretty nice too. I've had my Egnater Rebel 20 for roughly 6 months and it's been bulletproof. On two different rehearsals, It actually cut better than a DeVille and a HRDlx.
Great amp and never went above half power.

I run two 112 cabs with the Egnater. It's one of the best sounding amps I've owned in 40 years. The speaker cabs are closed back, ported and they're really efficient.

Nowhere here has a Class 5 in stock, but they'll let me order one. like WTH? Yeah I came in to try one out, to see if I like it, but why don't I order it instead?

As for the egnater amps, i have yet to hear anything negative about them. everyone who has one raves.

Hi thumbs: I demo'd one a few weeks ago and liked it. If I needed such an amp it would be high on my list - in fact I had to work hard to remind myself I don't need it, cos it would certainly look the biz around the house. Sounds cool, looks cool.

I guess it ain't the absolute ultimate, but at about a fifth of the price of the corresponding Bad Cat, say - what's not to like?

BTW: do I remember right - I thought you had that nice new Blackstar amp? Surely that's enough for any man? :D

Cheers - C

Aye! your memory serves correct! However; The Blackstar head and Marshall cab are hardly portable. I need a tube combo for the "front porch" jam sessions we do every few weeks. The jams are hardly gigs, maybe 5 guitars, a couple of bass players and a drummer or two on occasion. So I dont need a 60 watt+ rig, but am wondering if the Class 5 will cut thru the mix with HRDLX's and a few 50-100 watt SS amps. I dont have to be the loudest but I would like to be heard!

Did the Class 5 break up at all? Its tough to get some of these lower watt tube combos to break up, even at full volume, and since the Class 5 doesnt have an overdrive channel... I'd rather not have to add my pedal board to the list of things to be drug along to these events.

I've also been shopping '65 DRRI's. An impressive amp to be sure and I've wanted a Fender tube combo for some time now (Having only owned Marshall amps up to this point) but to be honest its really more amp than I need.

Any other tone charicteristics you could share with me?

Looks really well made, nice, and clean in the photos. Two ECC83 preamp valves and the EL84 into a 10" driver with no effects to muddy the waters along the way. What's not to like in that small combo? 330£ ($534) !?! Well... I guess you get what you pay for.

I have a small 5 watt valve and love it. Now I'm jonesin' to drag it out of the bedroom today and practice on it out in the 20' X 20' family room. I think I will.

Its listed at $399! The $534 you saw must be MSRP

Correct. The 330£ was suggested retail from the Marshall site where I looked it up. That price reduction just makes it all that much sweeter now doesn't it? 8) The way the US Dollar bounces up and down the ladder these days there's no telling how prices will run from week to week. :?

Looking at it, I'd be suprised if you can get a clean tone at any kind of volume where you could jam with others. A 5watt marshall is going to sound loud enough on your own, I think when you get it out its going to get the powervalves cooking a bit too much for a true clean sound at volume. Its what marshall's do best and why we love em.

For clean theres only one way to go, Fender. For gain you couldnt get me away from marshall. 2 very different horses on very different courses.

I'd expect a classA basic 5watt marshall to give a very classic 70's kind of sound (think free, alright now). Particularly with their recent return to form on the vintage modern.

The beauty of a class A amp is when you roll back the guitar volume, it cleans up nicely.
