The Little Breton Bistro by Nina George.

If you like Thrillers and Chillers there's a good list here.

Looks like a great collection of scary writings there, Steve. Thanks, for the post.

I have an old book given to me because I was told the true story occurred in my childhood neighbourhood when I was small. Haven’t read it yet. I’m not sure if I wanna, but curiosity will probably get me into it.

It’s titled ‘Torso’.

I like ghost stories and thrillers anything like that and if it's a true story even better especially if it's written well. :D

I agree that true thrillers and such can tweak the senses, Steve.

I used to read a lot when I was on ships. TV didn’t take up our time in the 60s. For convenience sake and variety I used to read short stories. It was a good way to sample a lot of authors over a short time. If I found a new author that I enjoyed I’d search for a full novel of the same author.
Sometimes, I’d find a slew of well known authors within one book. Usually though, I found short story authors stuck to that form of writing. :P
Later my interests moved on to non-fiction books; but, you’ll also find I have Sci-Fi / UFO novels, and classics (amongst them a somewhat full set of my childhood Fairytales and Fables, Limericks, Rhymes, Lord of The Flies, and FuManchu). Everything from history, art, music, survival, marine life, crime, magic, trivia, how things are made or work, autobiography's, and most everything in between fill my large bookcase. Along with my collection, I inherited my father’s collection including his boxed annual collection of National Geographics. My father was a reader and I was encouraged to learn one thing every day. It didn’t help though. I’d forget it the next day. I should have stuck to non-fiction and my photography picture books.

Ulysses by James Joyce.

Should keep me going for a while it's over 900 pages long with an introduction that's over 50 pages long.

How many of you believe Big Brother doesn’t exist or at the very least believes BB is at a distance for now?

Well, I’ve been reading about whole home automated personal computing HVAC controls and found they are, for the most part, app associated with Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and others. Data is shared, and not only can the HVAC company, for example, check the operation remotely to ease trouble shooting, but your habits can be monitored for automatic efficiency. This includes, perhaps, monitoring our time away from home. Analytics and sharing with others interested also comes into question.

This Old House mentioned the power companies and, not new, but less prevalent, is the monitoring of one’s power usage remotely. Word has it, similar to recent events in California, that the power companies are working towards selective monitoring and considering when and if to give you your electricity based on your usage. Sounds like a plan.

Every time one plays nice to buy energy efficient, not always environmental like the plastic and mercury within, goods, it never seems to be enough to reap long term rewards. I’ve had whole house faders and LEDs for years, and energy efficient appliances, and still the power companies do a song and dance with increasing rates exporting more energy than we can use with a complicated give and take sidestep. Add to the fact that most people pay their bill without monitoring their usage. What a deal for them.

So much for promoting electrics in a world that can’t cope now. YMMV.
Maybe, a windmill in the back yard would be a good move. I’ll haveta read up on that. Dang! I have too many birds in this flyaway.:? Maybe, I’ll turn to solar panels. Nope! More plastic for snow panels up here. Nice! I can get a generator at the end of the street, but wait! That’s gasoline. :?
Meanwhile, I’m also reading about the.efficiency of hard wired and replaceable laptop batteries. Now have some idea of Watt Hours.

Aw, fuggedabout it,

I believe BB is alive and well, poking and prodding into every aspect of our lives. I, for one, DO NOT like it.

I read about how our electric company was changing all of our electric meters to more modern and accurate models. Some people didn't want them (see below). Some people tried to physically stop the company from installing them so the company sent out thugs to install them. Seriously! I thought they forgot about my house but one day my dogs started barking so I looked out front and saw the company's van. I went outside and there were two big thug-like guys dressed in street clothes telling me that they were changing the meter. When I read what some of my neighbors had written, I took it with a grain of salt. But, it was true.

This is what my neighbors and I don't like about the improved meters. They can tell when:
* your AC/heat turns on and off (our houses are all electric)
* your appliances go on and off and which ones they are
* what TV's are on and in which room they are in
* when and in which room your lights go on and off (they know when you go to sleep)

At first, I found it hard to believe that all this information could be passed on by a simple electric meter. But, my neighbors produced studies and documentation backing up their claims. It all seems very credible.

Yes, I believe BB is alive and doing very well, for itself.

Thanks, for your post, Marky.

That’s interesting like the big M standing on the edge of your farm field, or the men in black, huh? It doesn’t take much to manage a population. Food, water, currency, and energy will pretty much wrap it up. Historically, that’s been (and still is) the case long before weapons of mass destruction.

I used to tell strangers knocking at my door that subtle calculations and deviations are all it would take, with a little public complacency or jump on the bandwagon mentality, to change our course unknowingly before I was handed an end of the world pamphlet shouting Doom’s Day was just around the corner because something was about to fall out of our of the sky. I didn’t listen, and neither did they; but, that’s another story.

Funny how things escalate and show up on our doorstep, and in our lives just because they can. Even a cowboy might have to order hay online.

Here at home a new meter was added outside for gas. Electric hasn’t changed, and we still have to let the meter reader into a locked gated area. The water meter is read inside the house which we do, except on the occasion clarification is needed by the city that it still works. We had earlier moved the gas meter from the basement to the outside. Now we are told to watch out for phoney meter readers.

I’ve known about remote readings some years back, because (I might have mentioned elsewhere) there are remote areas like islands on the coast where it was a practical solution. That’s how these undesirable additions develop though. For the moment we are budgeted month to month with a regular payment with a credit or debit at the end of the year. Usually we have a credit, and that works out good with winter and summer extremes. We do have the provincial government owning the gas and hydro though, both of which we have plenty of; however, it is thought to be in debt for a variety of reasons, not all good, and yet talks of going private are out there. Strange that a poor investment is now a good one.
Installing a meter? -might as well throw the works in at the same time, just like the first digital watches, even if it’s only for future consideration. Do it with the phones, the TV, the fridge, the heating and cooling, the car, the desktop, laptop, and tablet. Why stop there? Maybe the dishwasher suds can be monitored for pollution. Ya heard it here first, Even the toilet can be a monitor. perhaps for methane or some other sh*t. Why not add a camera behind the bathroom mirror? I’d like that. My ugly morning face will teach them a lesson.
All my cameras at work could be capped up or disengaged when not needed. I noticed HP, and others I suppose, have a similar function. Pretty hard to do with facial recognition. We’ll be seeing that more, maybe to unlock your house and car doors like Mission Impossible. That key redundancy will still be around for power outages.
Want something to read? How about starting with all the manuals, legalese, and Eulas. That’s if you get them. :|
Automation? I don’t think It’s the goods that are automated . . . we are!

Oh, brother.

Steven Tyler’s book looks to be a good read, Mike. If anything, he’s a worthy subject. IMHO.

I agree with Gary. That does look like a good read, Mike. Thanks for sharing it.

Maybe I'll buy the Kindle Edition so BB will know what chapter I'm on. Just kidding.
