Spent the night and morning reading reviews and specs of computer printers. Lots of information to overwhelm a decision. Features versus reliabiity versus ink supply versus print quality versus cost to run versus build and size versus displays versus user friendly setup and useful or frivolous
software, logical refined operation versus mandatory over choice of social network communication versus . . .

I’m retiring two printers. One of the cheapest basic printers and one AIO second from the top in it’s home/office category (just read that). I was considering switching to self filling ink tanks as opposed to cartridges. Now I’m reconsidering because the machine print heads are said to be prone to clogging as I just discovered that the ink is reported to be the culprit being a cheap problematic formula supplied from offshore, and that’s why the assumed savings. Hmm? Perhaps, considering the printer industry has a history of ink related issues. Maybe, that Big Brother Google/Facebook/Twitter in your face machine with high priced cartridges is an alternative. :? Hmmmm. One solution is a less convenient separate printer and scanner as I used to use before AIOs. I’m not convinced the paperless world is for us or them. Good and bad for both me and them (me thinks). Sometimes, I feel like an coerced addict among the pushers with their junk. I still like books and the odd photograph.

More reading is needed to get a machine that works for my older still useful loaded PC, and with the new OSs to come my way (plus the present cellphones and tablet). Websites omit former OSs in their printer requirements; but, finding and reading manuals reveal a different specification at times. What a conundrum, Phtt!

Having worked in newsrooms and art departments, those mostly reliable printers very large and small, fully featured and simple (one of the models of which I have), had much less to contend with. Today, in many cases, if it’s proven quality and value - change it, promote it, sell it, and repeat! A great home printer? Good luck! One with Alexis? Easy peasy. The times are changing that’s for sure.
YMMV

I finally pulled the trigger on a new replacement printer so I have a lot to read for setup, and I hope to read a lot of prints after. Maybe I’ll just look at the wide print photographs. :P

Ableton Live 10 Power! The Comprehensive Guide by John Margueles I plan to spend the next year working through it and a Berklee College of Music Jazz Composition book.

I'm also planning on buying "How Music Works" by David Byrne after Christmas.

I’m reading about heraldry. I have mostly an Irish and English background. My Irish background is very solid and my name can be traced back to the first century and, without verification of written record, perhaps earlier. Ireland has one the better historical verifications of surnames because of royal decree and the monks amongst other things until Cromwell, unlike in places like Europe that changed hands many times.

I mention this because I found out my wife’s maiden surname was handed down much later as a descendant of a descendant from my lineage. Whoo boy! Not one to jump on the family history social media, especially with the science, that has got me thinking about DNA. There has to be some scoundrels amongst the pedigree.

Heraldry and comics have a lot in common. Fact, fiction, adventure, lots of colourful artwork and fancy print work. Kinda reminds me of the old comic books like Prince Valiant the longest running adventure strip of them all. :D
