Finishing up an issue of "Bass Player," then I'm going to start on an issue of "Vintage Guitar."

I've been thumbing through the new Sweetwater Pro Gear catalog.

Getting rid of my collected magazines.

Right now I'm reading some production trade film and video tape (On Location), motion picture and television (millimeter) periodicals.

Lots of interesting stuff about hardware and technique joined together with personal experiences. The issue I'm looking at now discusses "The Last Starfighter", "Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom", and the "'84 Olympics" along with a spattering of music videos. Lots of advances today . . . but, some great things never change. 8)

Incidentally, King Baggot was recruited for "The Last Starfighter" (1984). He was the DOP (Director Of Photography) for Beatlemania (1980) amongst his other credits. The movie Beatlemania was panned by critics while TLS fared better. The Starfighter movie budget was reported to be $14 million and the SFX cost $4 million. For the geeks out there, thanks to Digital Productions, a Cray XMP ($12.6 million at the time) , one of approximately ten back then, was the only one being used specifically for super computer graphics. How does 1 billion calculations per second sound? It sure beats the 3D animation I did on a PC 120. The rest is history, and my computer is still relatively slow.

I just finished up an issue of "Bass Player," and now I'm starting another issue of "Premier Guitar." I'm still at least a couple of months behind with my subscriptions. I have several more stacked up waiting. Well, at least I won't have to worry about running out of stuff to read for awhile. :P

A 1947 copy of Field and Stream given to me. It came out the same year I was born so the ads are pretty cool as is the cover that is well known with a rainbow trout illustration. It’s seen a lot of use with wear and tear though - just like me.

To kill time when I have a few at work...which is hardly ever....or at my lunch break....I'm reading "Double Cross" by the Giancana's about Sam Giancana-Mob Boss. Quick and easy reading.

I have several other books 'open' in my iPhone, iPad and laptop....."Suck And Blow" by John Popper, "Improvising Without Scales" by Carl Verheyen, "Blink: The Power Of Thinking Without Thinking" Malcolm Gladwell and "Focus: The Hidden Driver Of Excellence" Daniel Goldman.

I just got done with "The Covert Passive Aggressive Narcissist" by Debbie Mirza.

That's my industry, as far as my 'straight' job. Are you in the biz also?

Not to pirate the thread.....just to ask.

The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O by Neal Stephenson and Nicole Galland. Pretty good but drags a bit in spots, so I’ll read a hundred pages or so over the course of a day or two, then put it on the shelf for a week or two.

Also re-reading the marvelous Parker novels by Richard Stark aka Donald Westlake. If you’re not familiar, Parker is a career criminal with a heart of iron, specializing in institutional heists. The books are compulsively readable and re-readable. My early-80s paperbacks are getting too yellowed and brittle to read, so I’m buying the ebook re-releases one book a month. I’m currently up to The Seventh, which is...the seventh book in the series; after not having read these books in 15+ years, I’m discovering lots of things I had forgotten, almost like reading them new. I adore having all my books on the iPad, so incredibly convenient.
