Two of the few things I brought with me when we moved back to the prairies from the coast were custom made book/vinyl cases made in a logging town.

Since then my books and my father's (mostly non-fictional including binders of National Geographics) have filled the shelves. There are seafaring books to historical gangster stories, books from experts on hieroglyphics to Khrushchev and other national figures. Wildlife (even Sasquatch reports), outdoor and survival books. Sports like Ali, trivia, science and inventions, UFOs, music history, and a lot more like Rushdie, Lord of The Rings, and my childhood big book with wood prints of Classics (including the original Alice In Wonderland), Fairy Tales, Fables, Poems, Nursery Rhymes and more.

One of these days I'll have to read the whole collection instead of browsing the pictures. Maybe in my next life.

My dad made sure we had a home full of books as he told me to learn at least one thing everyday. I'm still lurnin'; but, at my age, I keep forgetting. :?

I just finished reading an interesting article on how 14 minutes of video utilized 5 1/2 minutes of original digital multitrack 5.1 in order to make a Dolby Atmos 3D version of Thriller. Humberto Gatica was the producer engineer who (along with Bruce Swedien) worked on the original. Eight times Grammy nominated Martin Nessi also engineered the Atmos version.

The original stereo multitrack master session was not available. Besides song and video length differences there was also a variety of speed differences amongst various formats. There were artifacts, and tape splices, noise, matching reverb, and other considerations such as the fact that the cinema version could include 120 more or less speakers! An amazing mixing accomplishment using analog and digital. Kinda makes home recording (at least mine) look like a breeze.

Yes, kids. Thriller, one of history's great recordings, used tape and razor blade editing. :P

Very interesting, FSB. A bit beyond my humble recording IQ but I get the gist of it. :)

Hey, Marky. You under value your skills. I looked around my house today and I didn't see any Grammys sitting around.

"Premier Guitar" It's fun to look at gear that I'll probably never be able to afford. :P

You and me both with that eye candy, Paul. On the other hand, even a diddley bow can have mojo. Especially if it’s made out of rosewood.

Keith Richards - Life (I had no idea they were into Jimmy Reed in the beginning!)

As part of re-arranging my recording space, I’m brushing up on my Soundcraft mixer and weighing my options by reading the manual. Mixers are not new to me, but there always seems to be some confoosin’ with the manuals as they sometimes lean more to the engineer rather than the operator. :?
